DeShon Porter, “Prince Big D,” a communications major, transferred to New Jersey Institute of Technology from Essex County College in 2007. Legally blind, Mr. Porter desires to own his own broadcasting company and record label. Mr. Porter founded Big D Entertainment in September of 2002, debuting with his own TV show, “The DeShon Porter Show.” In 2003 Porter guided Tyrone Jackson to produce his own show and thus became the co-producer and director of “Tyrone Jackson’s Breakthrough.” After a hiatus of “The DeShon Porter Show,” Porter came back on the air with “The Big D Zone,” hoping to expand the broadcast to radio as well as TV. The radio show finally began in 2006 after the singer side of Porter appeared on “The Doghouse” with JV and Elvis in their talent show, where he sang the song “Our Wedding Day.” Porter placed second, and little more than a week later he accepted the invitation to return to the show to have some “fun”! The rest, Porter says, “is history.” Porter became a guest co-host of the show as emcee at a “Doghouse” event and loved every minute of it. Porter started his own Pod-cast of “The Big D Zone” in late 2006 and participated in the premier of the contest “Who Wants to be A Radio Star?” He is now a finalist. In 2007 Porter appeared on Army Radio, which is a fan base of “The Doghouse.” Porter is also an actor, having been featured as an extra in the movie Special Needs, available on DVD. He has also auditioned for “The Bachelor.” His upcoming CD, Welcome to Big D Country, is a mixture of clean love songs, poetry, and gospel. He has also read his poem “You Are Not Alone” at Madison Square Garden in NYC as a finalist at McDonald’s Gospel Fest. Included in Porter’s dreams are getting married, graduating college, answering God’s call to be either a minister or pastor, running for public office, never worrying about money ever again, and owning one of the best indie labels in the world. With the Lord’s blessings Porter says he knows that this can and will happen.
