Ever wonder what happened to country music being made by working-class folks for working-class folks? From the heartland of the U.S. comes Ralston, two brothers that named their band after the street that they live on. Ralston puts its own stamp on Country/Pop, giving it a shot of life, and never taking itself too seriously. Their songs are about the things that they know best: having a good time, being with the people they love, and being in the country that they love. So, get your friends together, grab a cold one, and get ready for Ralston. Ralston is comprised of Jason and Jordan Smith, who’ve made music together their whole lives. Writing songs and singing together is second-nature to them, and it shows on “Claim to Fame,” “Rewind the Time,” “Show you Off (Dirt Road Pop),” “Stars and Fireflies,” and all the rest. The songs are catchy, and they make you want to ride the highway with the windows down and the stereo all the way up. The good times aren’t without their serious moments, though. “Rounds for the Troops” is Ralston’s debt of gratitude to the men and women serving in Iraq and Afghanistan. “If You Only” is a tender song that Jason wrote for his daughter, Jaylee. “Claim to Fame,” for all of it’s big guitars and sing-along choruses, is about being fed up with all of the things that the media says we should care about and getting back to basics. All of the songs fit Ralston’s message: they’re average guys who are just out to have a good time and to do right by their families, friends, and their country. Ralston’s not about celebrity culture, but about celebrating the fact that they’re just like you. They know that you work hard, and that you deserve to play hard—all they’d like to do is give you a soundtrack. If you’re looking for a new kind of Country/Pop, one that brings it all back home, then look no further than Ralston. They’ll be the first to tell you that they’re not looking to be stars. They just want to have fun, drink some beer, and sing some good ‘ole country songs. Ralston’s not asking much, just that you take a listen.
