Salute The Streets Biography In 2006 Said Saganav ìSwifTurkî decided to create a DVD that would help promote urban music; with the help of Felix Adams ìFlexManî they managed to do this but as they were financially challenged to launch the project as a pair they both decided it was best to make a new recruit, Christopher Oluwole ìSlickco.î The DVD is a music showcase comprising of performances, freestyles and also interviews of both males and females, whether being if the talent is to sing or rap. SwifTurk was the main person to film footage that contributed to the DVD which was called Salute The Streets (STS). FlexMan was asked for his help as he was great at putting an idea together, extremely organised and resourceful. Slickco was asked to join not only due to financial setbacks but also because just like SwifTurk he was great with bringing new ideas to the table, and this was very beneficial for the team as three heads is a lot better than two. The three members travelled all across London filming different artists in the underground scene; filming did not end until early 2007. SwifTurk and FlexMan edited the entire DVD by themselves and had it pressed and duplicated along with a mix tape compilation of the different artists who were featured on the DVD. The mix tape was included as an added incentive to the DVD. The DVD was then distributed by the three members themselves to independent record stores; released in May 2007, generating some small revenue and a little buzz. After its release the three members decided to try and make their own music, they also brought along a close friend, Matthew Shobande ìSouthern Expressionî The four members like to regard themselves as a collective of individuals involved in a movement rather than a group. Many timeís you can hear them quote the following ìSTS is not a group, it is not a crew, itís a movementî. They also steer away from the pre assumed image of urban music, only talking about violence in tracks to pass out a message that young individuals will learn from, rather than encouraging the violence. They mainly make club music with a small dose of conscious music. After Experimenting with their sound in the dusk of 07 they decided to postpone plans for a volume two release of STS and instead focussed on their own music projects. In the entire year of 2008 they have made tracks and have done a few performances, but have not had much exposure to date. Currently in 2009, they have a lot of tracks at their disposal and intend to make a big impact on the music scene. They have a promo CD ready for release in February, which will be available for free and also a volume 2 promo CD in the summer also available for free. The four members also intend to release seven songs in 2009, four of which they intend to do official music videos for. The intention is to create enough buzz from these two promos and music videos, along with the help of performing at gigs to build a strong fan base that will ensure a successful mix tape release in 2009/2010. At the moment the four members wish to release the track titled My Desire, which is a re-fix of the original Old School Garage Classic. The concept of the song is quite self explanatory, very commercial and they believe that it would be a favourite for valentines. They currently have several DJís awaiting the demos to be sent to them before they start playing it. In the future each member plans to bring out their own personal projects in addition to bringing out a second volume of the DVD series, which will have more acts, including poetry, dance and comedy.
