Sarah Rayani was born in London, England, to Swedish and Indian immigrant parents. She moved to the United States at age 13, where her family lived in Seattle, Washington. Sarah sang and danced from age 5, when her parents discovered her natural talents and musicality. Throughout her childhood she practiced Ballet, Jazz and Hip Hop, sang in choirs and shows and had classical, operatic vocal coaching. From an early age she knew with a fervent passion that being on stage was her calling. She completed a Bachelors degree in International Relations with Honors from Lake Forest College in Illinois, before fully embarking on her career as a dancer and singer in New York City. In her singing career, Sarah currently has jazz vocal coaching under Rondi Charleston (Emmamuse - http://www.myspace.com/rondicharleston) who says of her "Sarah Rayani posesses not only a beautiful voice, but the genuine talent and discipline to carry her far in the music world." Sarah was the featured singer on hit rapper Maino's song "I'm da Future" which is from his latest EP "Unstoppable" (Hustle Hard/Atlantic Records - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vjgk4k44cXE) She has sung at venues all over New York City (including Don Hills, Public Assembly, Galapagos, Gallery Bar, The Local 269 and Sullivan Hall) and does monthly jazz nights at Barberry (http://www.barberryny.com/) and Kafana (www.kafananyc.com) Sarah has worked with producers from London to New York to Seattle and even Stockholm, including Blastoff Productions, (http://blastoffproductions.com/) Daniel Lynas, (http://wonderfulrecording.com/) Nick Crespinel, (http://www.soulhopmusic.com/www.soulhopmusic.com/Home.html) Marcus Crowe, Mattias Caliste of famous Swedish rap group Fjarde Varlden (http://www.myspace.com/blastoffcaliste) and Avery Storm (Derrty Entertainment/Universal Records http://www.myspace.com/averystorm) as a vocal producer. In London, Sarah has made radio appearances on Westside Radio (http://www.westsideradio.co.uk/) and performed alongside JaySean (Cash Money Records) in Regents Park for the Partnership Walk (http://www.partnershipsinaction.org.uk/charityrunentst.html) among other venues. Sarah took her first Belly dance class at age 17 and says she was hooked. Sarah was recently a featured Belly dancer in the upcoming movie Sex And The City 2 (coming Summer 2010 - http://www.sexandthecitymovie.com/ ) Now living in New York City, she Belly dances under her mentor Lucy Alia. As a member of Lucy's dance troupe she performs in New York's vibrant venues. Although Sarah's music, almost all of which is written by her, can certainly be described as popular and having mass appeal, she manages to blend Jazz vocals, Motown backing vocals and occasionally even Indian tonality with sample heavy hip hop and synthesized pop. She has drawn on her own unique ethnic and musical backgrounds to create her incomparable sound. With Belly dance in her blood and jazz in her soul, Sarah Rayani performs all over NYC and London as she frequently travels back and forth, creating a buzz in the dance and music worlds!
