The Beginning of International MUSIC SK! Their music has been endorsed by the greats of their industry. Day by day they are moving towards becoming a household name in the United States and abroad! From their well crafted dancing to giving groundbreaking performances, this team has it all. Artists by day. Streetside TV by evening. Entertainers by night. Don’t miss the chance to make a history with the beginning of an international phenomenon! It is not an easy task maintaining an image that retains a versatile combination of sex appeal, street appeal, and pure raw talent. SK! is a culmination of a kaleidoscopic talent that is often never achieved, they remain humble because they are an anomaly. SK! Two individuals that are branded by friends and fans among Dancehall/Reggae as the “Flow Genies”. Sheldon “Stylez” Ellington and Recordo “Kardo” Phinn were both born and raised in Kingston, Jamaica. When describing and comparing these two individuals, one must venture metaphorically into the fashion world. Just stop; and take a second to really break down the elements that make up fashion and what it is today: sex, talent, and creativity, just to name a few. With these key qualities you are able to create a plethora of style and fashion in a variety of designs and appeals. One could even refer to it as a universal language. SK!, Stylez n’ Kardo, is much like fashion because they possess the variety of qualities that make them able to step outside the confines of normal musical boundaries. SK! is gifted with the ability to appeal to what we would call the majority. Currently SK! is in the studio recording their independent album titled “POP-TOIS" to be independently released mid 2011. A year prior to the debut of their album, SK! released a compilation mix tape dubbed “Di Journey” in several states such as NYC, L.A, Ohio, North Carolina and South Carolina. The mix tape got positive views and reviews from both the streets and some of the industries big boys. A multi-state promotional tour was the outcome for summer of 09-Fall 09. Like most groups and entertainers, Sheldon and Recordo met each other at the community church at the tender age of seven and have been best friends ever since. Music has been a passion for both individuals but in different ways: Recordo was apart of the church choir, while Sheldon was just another attendant. After four years of childhood friendship they both went their separate ways, not by choice, but by different school selection. After five years of no contact or communication they bumped into each other at college and that was it: the friendship was back in full force. With school on the line, music was not supposed to be a main priority for neither of the two. This bond rekindled and ricocheted full force around the time that their families had, had enough of the financial commitment to a pair that no longer seemed committed to the cause, which at this point should have been school. That did not stop the two from forming a group of three. They performed throughout and made a name for themselves at surrounding schools and within the neighborhood; yet, the reality of the real world was drawing near. After graduating from school they decided to take their career to the professional level. Sadly, with three individuals, three different personalities arose and differences between goals and commitment severed the three into two. Sheldon and Recordo decided that it would be best for everyone to become a duo and so they created what we know today as the “Flow Genies,” SK!, Stylez n’ Kardo. This was just the beginning of a long journey. Sheldon soon after graduation was told by his mother that his immigration papers had came in. and he was now able to reside in the United States- the land of opportunity. Without a second thought the two decided to complete their mix tape before his departure to the USA. A month later, Recordo joined Sheldon in the U.S where they released their first ever mix tape in October 2006. From then on SK! has been creating a buzz for themselves locally and internationally. The success of their first mix tape was a big surprise, with the single that mesmerized audiences titled, “I Like The Way U Move.” The single created a great deal of buzz within the clubs, streets and local radio stations. For SK!, dreaming of performing for millions is not just a dream but will one day become a reality. They have shared the stage with the likes of international dancehall superstars such as Beenie Man, Capleton, Sean Paul, Mr. Vegas, Serani, Shaggy, Tami Chin, Elephant Man and Bounty Killer just to name a few. Not only is it dancehall sensations that SK! has rubbed shoulders among, SK! has also performed for community spearheads such as: the Mayor of Greensboro, Mrs. Evon Johnson; and Angelo Crowell, The National black theater festival. They have had exposure in places such as: The Drop and The Beautiful Black Women Festival locally and many more nationally. The first mix tape has been one of the greatest tools used to get SK! where they are today. They released their first single “Google Girl” march 2010 from their debut album “POP-TOIS” and shot the official music video for the single November 6th, with the introduction video for their second single “So Sexy” They are also promoting their 5 track cd which is self titled “SK-Stylez N’Kardo Which also features exclusive songs from their upcoming album. Whenever an artist has a song or a CD of 13-15 tracks and they promote it for a period of time, it gets old to the artist so he/she tends to move on to another project. But this is not the case with SK as They understand to be successful in this industry you have to be persistent, dedicated, patient, and most of all focused. Their philosophy can be best understood as what is old to the artist is still new to everyone else, and until the majority deems it is old it is the focus. With that in mind, SK! is always working on what needs to be worked on and what is already there they continue to make it better.
