Son of a Marine father and strong willed mother it’s easy to see where Luther”Smitty” Smith aka S-ROC gets his drive from. After being born in the Bayous of Louisiana he was whisked away from his pops during a nasty divorce only months later. After moving to Wilmington “Port City” North Carolina. He began to learn the crazy ways of the “hood”. Nesbitt Court, Garden Lake Estates, Dove Meadows and Hill Crest where all the project homes that he resided in. Being that he had lived in all the developments he seldom would have any problems with anybody around the way as he was a very crafty boxer. After witnessing one of his best friends use a shot gun to decapitate a man that’s when he decided that he was going to leave that environment the first chance he got. That was easier said than done, being that he was a role model for his younger brother and the only one in his home working ROC was torn between going off and becoming a man of his own or staying around and continuing to maintain his current household as best he could. Fast forward a few years and ROC decided to get away from it all. That’s when he joined the US Army. After meeting tons of new people he would learn that it was more to the world than what he was accustomed to. Late 1997 while doing a tour in Arizona he met another soldier who also happened to be a North Carolina native by the name of Rahsaun Ortiz (RAH-O) and that’s where the music came in. After hearing him freestyle one night ROC began to try it himself. Over the course of ten years he would bounce around where the Army sent him rapping, writing songs and sparking freestyle ciphers when he could, even in uniform at work on government computers. To make a long story short he was in love with Hip-Hop. Since he was a late bloomer he had a lot of catching up to do as far as knowing the history and the guts of where Hip-Hop came from. “The first tape I ever had was the R-Kelly and the Public Announcement single titled “Vibe”, laughs S-ROC. Since the ignition of it all he has constantly surrounded himself with good quality friends to which whom all share the same passion and love for music. He has been called all types of things by his friends such as bully; mean guy, the impatient one etc... Etc.. because of his urge to make everyone around him try and move with a sense of urgency to stop talking about what they want to do and just do it when it comes to music. “I hold music very near and dear to my heart and it bothers me to see cats that have talent let it slowly go down the drain so I’ll be the bad guy/bully if that’s what it takes... I’ll gladly be that dude if it makes cats move a lil bit. They’ll get over it...lol.” states S-ROC. So for those of you that don’t know it’s not a game so stay tuned and keep your ears peeled. He makes music for himself but shares it with us. He is Smitty Right On Cue, he is S-ROC!!!
