Los Angeles-based singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Stephen Lee got a serious wake-up call. During his first day for a new job at UCLA, he collapsed. But it wasn’t a case of opening-day jitters: His nerves were fine. His heart, on the other hand, wasn’t. Months later, doctors diagnosed him with Wolff-Parkinson-White Syndrome, a heart condition where patients have an extra connection in the heart, causing tachycardia and fainting. He gambled on a tricky heart surgery that had a 50-50 chance of correcting the problem. But he wanted to take that chance--because during his time in and out of hospitals, he promised himself that he would come back from a self-imposed music hiatus. The surgery, along with months and months of recovery, were eventually successful and Stephen Lee was, in a sense, “reborn.” He vowed to pick up his music career from where he left off. A skilled songwriter with production skills, Lee’s single “Online” made its world debut on the Independent Music Network in August and quickly raced up the chart’s to number one and was also included in the IMN newsletter feature spotlight. The tenacious R&B crooner has been featured in WWS R&B/Hip-Hop Magazine, in which he gave a candid interview about his music, the industry, and his future as a mature artist. Additionally, Lee is making his newest debut on Riverfront Radio in St. Louis in September 2010. Citing Marvin Gaye and Luther Vandross as just a few of his influences, the self-taught musician is a true architect of old school R&B and crafts captivating dance tracks, smooth ballads, and upbeat grooves with an old meets new school vibe. His upcoming CD Old School Reborn, is sure to bridge the gap between young and old audiences alike. Early reviews of his tracks have compared Lee’s music to across of the legendary Prince meets Angelo. Look to hear more about Stephen Lee soon--his first single “Online” is now available and attention, followed by the full CD in early 2011
