Beginning her development in the heart of Pittsburgh, the daughter of an Evangelist mother and police officer father, Rebella learned early how the world would want to keep her voice caged. Being drawn to the stage early, she started to perform as a youth, finding a way to blend her style. In high school, the world of rock found its way into this young rebel’s life. Being exposed to music from lyrical geniuses such as Nirvana and Smashing Pumpkins, Rebella started to see just how much she loved rock. As she continued to perform, she decided to leave college her junior year to pursue music full time. She moved to Atlanta with the promise of record deal and seeing her dreams come to pass. Soon she understood that what she wanted to do, she wasn’t going to be able to do easily. Through the years she lived in Atlanta, she learned how much the industry wanted her to compromise herself physically and morally in order to get ahead. How sex was the push to get ahead for a female, and if she were to stay true to herself, she either had to break and conform or find her own way. Her skills were considered too advance for the general public and the industry told her many times to “dumb down” her lyrics or the audience wouldn’t understand. Atlanta brought life changes and pushed ReBella to choose. She had to choose whether to keep seeking to be herself or allowed herself to become caged and compromise her ethics regarding the industry. So, she left the world of music behind to regain focus on her life. It was in teaching her son that he could be anything he dreamed to be that Rebella found her voice again. So, she decided to begin to do music her OWN way. Developing her first band called Stone Rejects, she started to blend her style of rock and rap, giving herself a voice again. This voice started her path of healing and became important to where she is now. Unfortunately, the band members began dealing with personal issues that led to it's end. Yet, Rebella was able to connect with family and friends to start the process of birthing out what has come to be Rebella Rising. Coming out of the darkness which has been caged for so long, Rebella Rising seeks to bring a message to connect people with their inner rebel, showing that conforming to the norms isn’t what she nor her band chooses to do.
