[BAR-KATE CO-TOUR] "We're born with legs to follow our dreams," The Barcait Couture takes these lyrics seriously. The band originated as nothing more than a dream: a crowd of cheering fans, the all-encompassing rush of passionate music, and a banner bearing the name "The Barcait Couture." The unconscious desire became a reality in the summer of 2007. From there, the band has endured their fair share of rise and falls, makeups and breakups, bumps and bruises, but still they tread on with a voracious determination to touch that dream. In the two years band members Vinny Malave, Reece Austin, Jason Rauen, and Dan Lambton have been together, they have proven that their drive is not in vain. In just those two years, TBC has progressed from playing cramped church basements for a dozen kids to gracing the stage with acts such as The Color Fred and Alkaline Trio. Chicago radio station Q101 has even played a part in the band's dream with the premiere of the single, "I'll Sleep When You're Dead," bursting through the station's airwaves. A surprisingly domineering victory in the Ernie Ball contest earned them a chance to play this year's Warped Tour. A professionally recorded EP already sits under their belt and the plans for a second are well on the way. TBC's sound has evolved just as much as their career. Originating with a pop-punk feel reflecting Sum 41 and Blink 182, the group have adapted beyond their basic beginning and merged the music of various cultures, genres, and themes to create a driving sound that is all their own. With songs such as "Just a Matter of Time," a track surging with blasting drums and rhythmic vocals, and "Superheroin," a thrash-punk number which seethes with rage and a deep hurt, they show how vast their influences are. The band still pays homage to their pop-punk roots, however, with the ballad "You Lie Better on the Floor," in which Vinny, Reece, and Dan each share their story on heartbreak and recovery. The lyrics pour with a raw emotion unseen in many other acts; it depicts the journey through love, loss, pain and anger that each member has experienced. The story of The Barcait Couture is one that is still being told. It is the evergrowing tale of a band brought together by the shared passion of music and molded through the trials and triumphs of each individual. Their rise is a constant climb that has yet to peak, a continuous stepping through the struggles, all to follow their dream.
