The Hopheads a new era of Americana Hailing from the mind altering heat of Tucson AZ "The Hopheads" formed in the fertile spring of 2010 from the remnants of several fruitless projects, they are now yielding a harvest of enjoyable anthems of angst. From their inception they have produced a unique sound, rich in satire yet bereft of pretense. The Hopheads handily deliver driving rhythms and accomplished guitar work in a folksy, furious, and fun style of country, punk, alt rock somehow brewing the combination of multiple genres into a naturally blended concoction. Parker’s lyrics sometimes snotty, snide, and somewhat offensive convey a commentary on modern society’s propensity for social and political hypocrisy. He's never afraid to let you know how he feels, and apparently no one (including himself) is safe from critical examination or above his facetiously placed contempt. Monzel’s contribution to the rhythm section seems to be fueled by a need to complicate time signatures and simplify bass lines all the while moving toward a utility of function that belies the simplicity of their structure and provides elegant support for Parker’s guitar styling. Pritchard creates the foundation for the group easily trapping the creative energy of the other two with solid beats and complex infectious rhythms. Pritchard's other contributions on keyboards, (and other various instruments) engineering and production can not be over stated. I think the live tracks moved me the most, overall I was easily converted. Praise the lord, pass the ammunition and click play!! -Drop Johnson -Muzik Sheet 10/10
