The Keep Aways unlikely ascent-from depressed basement dwelling teens to the living embodiment of all that is dangerous and utterly fucking transcendent about punk rock- began as this: three girls who barely knew each other, came to be one of the most promising bands around. The girls met a Halloween basement party in 2001 and bonded over what else, but booze and rock n roll. Three months after that fateful basement meeting they released a 3-song EP entitled ...Get Held Back on local label Shakyray Records. The EP quickly sold out as The Keep Aways expanded their rabid fan base by sharing the stage with the likes of Dillinger Four, the Gossip, The Hold Steady, The Black Eyed Snakes, Oneida, P.O.S and countless others. 2004 saw the greatly anticipated release of The Keep Aways 7-song self-titled debut on Al Sparhawk's record label Chairkickers Union. The album, "taut, fierce punk rock with an unabashedly metal backbone",proves on tape what devout fans of their blistering live shows have known for years. The initial release of 1500 were in beautiful hand stamped & individually sewn cases that ultimately gained the attention of CMJ Magazine who ran a story on the design in Vol. 133. Following the release The Keep Aways went on a high profile tour with Low in 2005. The juxtaposition with Low was a shock to the system but ultimately rewarding. Also that year they made their debut's at both the CMJ MUSIC MARATHON and the VANS WARPED TOUR. In 2006 The Keep Aways released a limited edition split 7" "thekeepaways/dt's split". The split on TKA Records was limited to 500 copies which sold out immediately. As with their debut each was handstamped, numbered and splatterd with red paint making sure no two were alike. 2006 Also brought a line up change as original drummer Shanna Willie left the band to pursue a career in Wyoming. Local Chris Warne was quickly ushered in and The Keep Aways didn't miss a beat. Next for The Keep Aways was the release of their first full length album, entitled Decay in 2007. The release confirmed their meld of post-punk influences with further experimentation with song structure. They debuted the release on MPR's The Currant 89.3, which still plays in heavy rotation. Currently The Keep Aways are working on their follow up to 2007's Decay, which will be released in early 2009. After that they will begin work on another independent "4-way" split record with local homegrown talent. Then back on the road.
