The Ladyquakes! (TLQ!) is an all-lady band from Bloomington, Indiana. Their debut EP, No No, is set to release in March from Hard Light Records, a label based in Bloomington’s thriving music scene. TLQ!’s music is a mix of soul and rock, with riot girlish beats from seasoned drummer Stacy Hoobler of One Fifth Griffith, Karate Cowgirl, and Brothers Lazaroff. Jada B., the group’s singer, has a powerful soul voice with a rock edge, and has been likened to a wide range of folks like Etta James, Elvis, and Beth Ditto from the Gossip. Anna Saraceno’s angular surf rock guitar riffs, plus Bauhaus-inspired progressions, add another level of dynamic sound to the band. Clara Kallner, featured on the band’s upcoming EP, lays down soulful bass lines that serve as a driving force behind the songs. New bassist Lauren Hughes brings a fresh perspective to the band, while TLQ! continues to evolve and expand their sound.
Formed in 2008, TLQ! is breaking stereotypes about what an “all girl” band is supposed to sound like. They were recently featured on WFIU 103.7 FM’s “Artworks” program (available at http://indianapublicmedia.org/arts/ladyquakes-limits-bloomington-music-scene/ ), and have been making noises in the LGBT music community, as well as making a stand in the rock community at large. The group’s music, combined with their energetic live performances and impromptu live song writing, contributes to a killer live show and a loyal fan base.
