The Screaming Crayons are a 4-man band originally from the Raleigh, North Carolina area, and recently split up amongst Duke University and the Universities of North Carolina at Chapel-Hill and Wilmington. Despite their geographic separation, the band reconvenes to play their shows, which, with such features as comedic intersong banter, instrument trading, electric percussive watermelons, and even a two-man drum solo, are anything but ordinary. In addition, each Crayon is a singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist. As a result, the band's music is very ecletic as there is no main genre. Different songs evoke influences as diverse as Stevie Wonder, Eric Clapton, Radiohead, The Decemberists, The Who, Elbow, Procol Harum, and Flight of the Conchords, among others. The Screaming Crayons just finished recording their self-made debut EP, "Masters of the 21st Century", available at www.myspace.com/screamingcrayonsnc for your listening pleasure. The arsenal of instruments that were used in the making of this EP is as follows; Electric Bass, Upright Bass, Fretless Bass, Electric Ukulele, Electric Guitar, Acoustic Guitar, Piano, Keyboards, Electric Violin, Mandolin, Drumset, Thumb Piano, Watermelon, Cowbells, Woodblocks, Rainstick, Shakers, a Dog, Mongolian Throat-Singing, Barbershop Quartet harmonies, and of course conventional lead and background vocals. Thanks for reading! Happy listening!
