The Band The Terry Whalen Band delivers a pounding mixture of roots, rock and blues and Terry delivers gritty and passionate vocals reminiscent of the great Muddy Waters. The 2008 release of The Devil’s Fireplace was nominated for a 2009 ECMA for Blues Recording of the Year. It is fair to say the boys leave it all on the stage every night! With a music career spanning over 25 years Terry decided it was time to leave the cover band world behind and finally set about releasing a catalogue of material that in some cases goes back as many years. Terry’s eventual partnership with lyricist and subsequent bassist Stephen MacKnight over three years ago jumpstarted a collection of material that appeared on the debut release of Sleepwalker’s Blues in 2007 and the follow-up disc The Devil’s Fireplace in 2008. The addition of Jimmy Larsen on drums, who also bring with him over 30 years of musical experience that spans from one end of Canada to the other, Terry's son Terry James on rhythm guitar, Abby Kierstead providing background vocals rounds out a band determined to create a blend of music that is one part tribute to the many great artists that have come before them but a bigger part that is taking the music in a whole new direction. In three short years Terry and the gang are quickly making a name for themselves and have seen a fan base develop that is boundless. To date they have had the honor of sharing the stage with Blue Rodeo, Comedian Gerry Dee, The Divorcees, Dave Gunning, Christina Martin, David Myles, Mel Keith, Gary Sappier,, Ron Hynes, Battery Point, and Faded Blue to name a just a few. The band will continue their journey into new markets and a whole new legion of fans, as evidenced by a recent trip to Newfoundland. The future is looking good but at the very least the boys look forward to making a lot of new friends in the coming months. So with the tires hitting the road, they’ll be seeing you soon.
