Singer/songwriter TIM HARTY set out to start an original sounding band with the best and most talented musicians possible. The first of who was his former high school band mate, CRAIG HANEY. The two had known each other from playing percussion in marching and jazz band in the late ‘90s at Aurora High School in Aurora, Ohio; but wasn’t until a one-in-a-million-chance meeting at a concert at the Hollywood Bowl in October of 2007 that they were reunited after falling out of touch after high school. While Tim attended Otterbein University in Columbus, Ohio and started teaching himself guitar, Craig went on to the University of Alabama. While in Tuscaloosa, he was in the drumline for the Crimson Tide Marching Band. In addition, he played professionally around the state of Alabama for two years. In June of 2008, after two years of playing major Columbus nightclubs, Tim decided it was time to make the leap to L.A. to pursue a career in music with recently reunited friend and new band mate Craig, who currently lived there. After moving, now with an established rhythm guitarist/vocalist/songwriter and a drummer, the pair decided it was time to find the band’s other half; piano and bass. The first to respond to a ‘pianist wanted’ flyer was CalArts student ANTHONY STARBLE. Anthony, originally from Denver, Colorado, began studying piano classically at the age of 10. Also a songwriter, he has been acknowledged by the Berklee College of Music winning their songwriting competition in 2005, and their 'Searching for a Star' competition in 2006. Since coming to L.A., Anthony has been exposed to a wide variety of western and non-western musical ideas, which makes him a great fit for the band. After holding a few bass player auditions, the now trio finally came across their perfect match; a talented bassist by the name of JOSH SHAPIRO. A graduate of Rutgers, Josh moved to L.A. from Chicago, where he studied music theory at Northwestern and taught music and jazz theory at Wright College. While there, he also played professionally for 6 years with many different groups around the midwest. theTimHartyBand is four talented musicians playing an alternative style of pop/rock and bringing an original sound in songwriting to listeners everywhere.
