Born in 2007, To Kill a Monster is a group of 5 dudes with a pact, (*see bottom for said pact), wanting to do what they love for the rest of their lives. Their sound is an intense blend of super high energy alternative rock, dance, hardcore, punk and pop that’s full of rhythmic energy and originality which has come to be their unique signature sound. To Kill a Monster lives to be the band and the songs that are the soundtrack, energy and inspiration of everyone’s life. The band is comprised of Joey Lawson (vocals), Dane Hendren (bass and vocals), Tyler DeWalt (guitar and vocals), Chris Lehner (guitar), and Mike St. Laurent (drums). With influences such as: A Day to Remember, The Offspring, House Of Heroes, Taking Back Sunday, Weezer, Every Time I Die, and more.
The band went into Paper Tiger Studios (Attack Attack, The Crimson Armada, Of Mice and Men) in Columbus, OH to record their first major demo, which received an immediate response from fans and critics. This later was rewritten, with additional tracks and became the band’s First EP, recorded with Don Debiase (Driver Side Impact, Beneath the Sky, Epicurean, Luna Mortis, Forever in Terror) at Chin Studios in Cleveland, OH titled Bears Fight Bears, released in January 2010, on iTunes, CD Baby, and more. Each song that they create is a direct reflection of the life, love, fun, and feelings of everyone and everything around them.
They have brought their music to the masses, and have performed with national acts such as, Secondhand Serenade, Let’s Get It, Alesana, Asking Alexandria, Attack Attack, The Bled, Enter Shikari, Bury Your Dead, The Audition, Every Avenue, Danger is my Middle Name and We are the Fury. The band has been privileged to perform at a featured showcase for Island Def Jam and played the entire 2009 Cornerstone Festival in Illinois.
*PACT: In addition to all that we have currently produced, taken part in, taken advantage of, rocked out to, we also plan to never quit. We are a force that destroys barriers, friendships (brings them back together after said destroying), those who do not believe, and all words against us in hopes to make this continue (won‘t need to use continues, plus we have no quarters left. So, this is not an option). This is our dream and as that dream we live it loud, proud, frowns upside down to make the world aware of the jams we crank out. This is us and we are not settling for anything but everything…er, mostly everything uh…we sort of take what we can and leave a polite note.
