In August 2010, songwriter Jason Garcia (Household Names), decided to randomly ask his friend Cate Journeay to come up with some words for a tune. Since then, the Austin duo known as Twin Vines has somehow come up with enough songs for a whole EP, an idea which still surprises them considerably. Influenced by the darker sides of pop (Emily Haines, Aimee Mann) as well as the brighter (The Supremes, New Pornographers), Twin Vines will hit you with the more trying aspects of human interaction; lulling you in with Cate Journeay's deceptively sweet voice while pianos and synths soar over beats. They are recording their first EP, "The New Normal", at home on an iBook with a cheap Casio keyboard, aided and abetted by longtime producer pal Lars Goransson (The Cardigans, Blondie) when they want bits to sound more badass. It will be released...when it's done. Until then, here's the first single, "Poison Words", to tide you over.
