The compelling UNFOLDS are Nico Vidot on vocals and rhythm guitar, Bradley Hunting on bass, James Mullan on lead guitar and Barney Paine on drums. The band has only been together for a few months - since January 2009. Still, they have already created a buzz with managers and cd promos contacting, venues lining up to book them and radios waiting around the corner. Before UNFOLDS, Nico was a solo artist, writing several songs a week and receiving great feedback from fans from all over the world and quickly getting thousands of positive comments about his songwriting, guitar picking and especially his voice. He was also complemented on his lyrics as people can identify with them. After a year of playing solo he decided to look for other musicians to jam with. He soon realised that it’s much more fun with a band! He’d always listen to these great solo artists but thought something was missing. So he decided to boost his own sound and for that he needed the best musicians around. Nico quickly found that there was a lot of interest for others to join in and after a few weeks, singled out a Mike Inez’s little brother on bass (Bradley), John Frusciante Jr. on guitar (James) Spike wells’ grandson on drums (Barney). Unfolds music is like a cross between Nirvana’s catchy riffs, The Beatles or the Police’s candid but powerful lyrics and the voice of Belle and Sebastian’s Stuart Murdoch with a Jeff Buckley feel - pushed by a beautiful French accent! “We want to make music that we love and connect with people who love it too and who feel that somebody understands them. Our aim at the moment is to enjoy playing together and keep receiving amazing feedback from old and new fans, while making great music. Without sounding too arrogant we’re probably one of the best bands around, at what we do!” Singer and songwriter Nico Vidot told us how he went from acoustic guitar strummer to electric whiz band with a uniqueness that dazzles everyone: “I started off writing songs on my own then, after a year, searched for people to form UNFOLDS. We were pretty lucky and got it together really quickly. My songs have really progressed and changed since we got together. I wrote a lot of stuff on acoustic guitar and gave that to the band but then I went back to my Les Paul and multi-effects. It all went more powerful and more melodic and with the help, talent and music expertise of the guys - it rocketed. Don't get me wrong, I still love my acoustic guitar! I play it every day while singing to my daughter. “I have also been quite lucky as far as inspiration is concerned; I have hundreds of ideas coming to me at once: some songs were written and recorded in less than an hour and still received great comments. I can’t compare Unfolds music to other artists. Even though my influences are mainly Nirvana, Radiohead, The Beatles and The Police; that wouldn’t give anyone a clue as to how we sound. I listen to a huge amount of new music. I’m always looking for bands on MySpace checking what’s around and I still haven’t found anyone like UNFOLDS!" ►UNFOLDS reply: "oh dear..."
