Formed in Oakland California, Utah Girl are a powerful folk rock duo who got their name from frequent performances at the legendary open mic at The Hotel Utah in San Francisco. From the onset, lead singer/songwriter Amy MacClain channeled lyrics from abuse, fear, abandonment- the unfortunate milestones that became the daunting hurdles she had to overcome trying desperately to grow up and survive in a dysfunctional, broken environment. The second half of Utah Girl, guitarist/songwriter and producer Jason Cole adds his percussive, yet earnest and dynamic music and arrangements making Utah Girl a prolific song writing duo. Though not all of her painful childhood (and adulthood) demons are fully slain, Utah Girl now write of hope, of love, and of slowing down, taking a deep breath, and embracing the world and all of the people who inhabit it with love and compassion. Utah Girl are currently mixing their new album which will be released later in 2010.
