Biography

Cavalier by definition means "gallant, gentlemanly and chivalrous" but also is a adjective for arrogance. Emcees by nature are arrogant, it IS, after all, part of the competitive culture. Add that to the fact that Cavalier is a world traveled emcee, noted for his intricate wordplay and intense lyricism then you'll see plainly put, Cav is nice. More nice than the Chivalrous nature of his name indicates. Rooted in his home base of Brooklyn's hip-hop community, he's taken his music past the North American continent to Japan, Amsterdam, India, The Caribbean and beyond. His style aesthetic as a multi-ethnic Brooklyn native draws strong inspiration from Native American roots as well as his penchant for collecting vintage Polo Ralph Lauren. His initial project, the self-released album "The Breaking" gained a core NYC following, allowing him to follow-up with a weekly freestyle series to his fans that spanned an ambitious 30 weeks including the well-received "Lost Weeks". After his first trip to Japan, the earthquake occurred, inspiring a multimedia project entitled "The Offering/供え" which included 8 painters contributing 8 different Japan-inspired canvases, a musical project, a video installation as well an adjoining event to raise awareness to raise funds for The Japan Society. Collaborations with Homeboy Sandman (StonesThrow), Fresh Daily and Mickey Factz further solidified his standing as a respected independent international emcee. Honing more emcee prowess performing on stages for CMJ, SXSW (sharing stages with Nas, DMX, Little Brother, The Beatnuts, Smiff N Wessun) and touring Tokyo (in both 2010-2011) as a featured artist for Japan Music Week and YUME Fest set Cavalier up for becoming a prime participant for the Marlboro (Japan) "One Track One Pack" Campaign. As well as being staunch pillar in Brooklyn's Hip-Hop cultural community events . Now poised to release a new LP "CHIEF", a powerful, re-introductory album boasting international production from noted beatsmiths and featuring some of Hip-Hop's elite on collaborative verses, Cavalier is aiming his bow high.
