In January 2009, with nothing more than the goal of recording a demo in less than one week, four friends, Alexander Garza, Stephen Ramirez, Jonathan Pruneda, and Ezequiel Lozano, set out on a challenge of writing and recording several songs in the very limited amount of time available to
them. Wielding nothing more than their respective instruments, a computer with cracked programs, and 300 dollars in microphones (that were obtained for free through a loophole), they tackled the job. By the end of this week, five songs, composed of ideas old and new, were written, but the majority of these songs were not completely recorded due to the incredibly limited amount of time.
Thus, winter break ended, forcing the members of …With a Sword on a Horse to take a temporary hiatus until summer 2009. In June 2009, With a Sword on a Horse continued writing and rehearsing new and old material, Adan Gonzalez filled in for Alexander while he was on vacation, and Christi Arredondo joined the lineup on vocals and keyboards. Wasoah played their first show with an array of local bands. Shortly after, they borrowed and bought more recording equipment and spent the next few weeks recording in their rehearsal space. July and August passed and …With a Sword on a Horse finished recording what they had started in winter 2009, which was released as their first EP ‘I left the familiar, towards horizons unseen’.
After a few performances and rehearsals, …With a Sword on a Horse parted ways with their vocalist, Christi Arredondo, and drummer, Jonathan Pruneda with hopes of taking the band in a new direction. In summer 2010, the band recruited drummer Alberto Long and recorded a few live tracks of new material which would later be made available for download on their website.
