Coming straight out of Long Island, Young Paper, have a fresh and innovative sound that hold its own with today’s main stream artist. Blao, Bilal Butler, was born and raised in Long Island, NY , however he lived in North Carolina for some of his pre-teen years. You can hear that New York swag in his delivery with a southern bounce in his flow. Blao began rhyming at the young age of 12, and recorded his first song at 14. It was at that time he knew he found his passion. Da General, Don Gorham, was also born in Long Island, Central Islip to be exact. He began rhyming at the young age of 14 from the influence of his older brother who was also a mc. Da General’s raspy voice and slick word play has caused him to make a name for himself amongst his peers. He recorded his first song at 14 years old while in a group called Set It Off. Shortly thereafter, Da General and another member of that group formed Paper Boyz. Paper Boyz then grew into a four member group where the last member, Blao, was recruited. Blao and Da General first met in the spring of 2009 when Blao performed at his high school talent show. After performing at local open mics and seeing the reaction from the crowd, Blao and Da General branched off and began working together under new management. They then created a new name for themselves “Young Paper.” “Young Paper” has also been featured in the May issue of XXL Magazine. YP’s single “Easy,” “Weak” and “Love Me” was debuted on New York’s Power 105.1fm. Young Paper’s goals are to have a successful music career as they perform and travel the world. YP would like to expand into television, movies and fashion.
