Rapper Protege has been performing since the age of eight. Now, at twenty, she is an accomplished songwriter, popular rapper, and the CEO of So Focused Music Group, based in her home state of Virginia. Protege has been deeply involved in music all her life, from pop to rap to R&B, and uses every day influences as inspiration for her songwriting. The underlying message of her music is to always believe in yourself and never get discouraged no matter what life throws at you. The music itself is sharp, pure hip-hop, full of laid back beats and interstellar grooves. It's hard not to move when you're listening to Protege. With all the hype of being a female artist Protege has gotten attention from Warner Bros, Asylum records, E1 Ent, Coperate Thuggin Ent. and Sony/Bmg all because of her style but deals fell through due to bad management. Upcoming singles to be on the look out for includes "Turn Me Up" and "Throw Ya Money Roll. Young Protege's musical influences include: Notorious B.I.G, Eazy E, Dre, Snoop Dogg, Game, The Diplomats, and Da Brat, and she consistently reaches her goal of having fun while creating a memorable experience for her audience. Protege was born Christine Carter on August 13th 1989 and grew up in Reston, Virginia, surrounded by music. Her early years were spent rapping with her Uncle (who dubbed her Young Protege) remixing great songs like "Turn Off the Lights" and "Let's Stay Together," and listening to old school music -- the O'Jays, the Stylistics, Earth, Wind and Fire -- with her grandmother. "Music has been my life ever since I got my first radio and listened to a CD my grandmother gave me for Christmas. It was Teddy Pendergrass' and Al Green's greatest hits". From the age of 8 onwards, Protege was constantly performing; singing in the church choir, at talent shows and community events, and once as the opening act for Rhianna at a community fundraiser in Virginia. Protege's mother died from complications from HIV/AIDS when the rapper was only 15, and the experience of taking care of her mother throughout her illness only made her will to succeed that much stronger, to honor her mother. Protege is an entertainer and producer whose work you are going to want to follow, and 2010 is going to be an amazing year for her. With success of her first show since losing her mother Protege managed to book herself as the main opener for Bad Boy/Atlantic Artist "Donnie Klang". As she writes in "I Gets It In" -- "no time for sleep gotta hit the booth, Yeah I do what i say in my line cuz i'm the truth, never stopping til the wheels fall off, ima rocket so sit back and watch me take off."
