Who is D.J. Purple Haze?... The youngest of two brothers and one sister, Purple Haze was born into a Christian atmosphere.
His Mother & father wrote and sang gospel muic which is where he was first introduced to music; singing and learning to play the guitar and the piano.
It became hard to persue that direction of music once he got older due to the peer pressure of his “friends”.
It wasn’t until his late teens that Purple Haze was introduced to the art of DJ’ing.
He saw how you could take one genre, mix it up, swap the words, change or add beats and grew a new fond respect for the art.
It was hard to find people of the same passion for it, in the area.
However, once he turned 18, his crew had parties, went to clubs and threw ,"get togethers" where he was able to meet others who shared his musical interests.
It was then that, he was introduced to DJ Slink in the mid 90's, a DJ at the now closed "Underground" in the Old City (Knoxville, TN ).
He heard the likes of DJ Baby Anne, DJ Icey, The Crystal Method and many more and he fell in love with the way the sounds could take ahold of you and just sooth your soul.
Unable to do it full time, so in the daylight he’d go to work and at night he’d dabble in the art of the dj. He started gathering records here and there.
Picking up a mixer here a turntable there, practicing, listening, practicing. And finally got a setup together.
On February 26, 2006 Purple Haze had a terrible car accident. Waking up two months later his mind was like a blank piece of paper.
His family had been told that he would be like a vegetable, not able to walk or talk again.
After several gruesome months of therapy he was finally able to return home. Now he had free time to focus on his music and he used it as a form of “relief therapy”.
He had been given a ‘computer dj program’ called Ableton Live, but he thought it was cheating.
Thinking that all you had to do was load the song and let the computer do it for you. He discovered how untrue that was and grew a new respect for “Computer DJ’s”.
Purple Haze says, “Becoming a DJ is the BEST thing that I've ever decieded to do! I started out wanting to be a DJ, to please others.
But after my accident I done it to rebuild myself. “ Currently ranked #1 on the Reverb Nation Electronica/Dance DJ charts amongst thousands of other musicans.
