Description
This song was written immediately after a close musician friend died from shooting Dilaudid (strong opiate analgesic pills used by Cancer patients). He was popular in the small "new wave/punk rock" scene in Phoenix, Arizona in 1981. I wrote the song in 1 hr, taught the band in sound check and debuted it that evening. We recorded it as a Ltd. Ed. single on K-15 radio- it was #1 for weeks. Appreciate per the era. (...yup, I'm playing a REAL Vox Continental!)
Lyrics
BLACK DRESS by KimAyrieMorris (aka: Kim O' Therapy w/ The Nervous) Black dress, Black dress... So tired, Can't sleep a wink, So numb, Can't even think, I had a lot to say once, But someone let him die, I thought I had to say once, But I let it slip by, Oh no, I'm not a teacher, Oh no, I never learned that lesson, Oh no, I'm not a preacher, Oh no, I never felt that strong, Oh no, I'll put a black dress on... Black dress, Black dress, All gone, The boy drank his milk, All wasted, All lined with silk, I tried to listen once, I held out my hand, I might's got the message wrong, He couldn't even stand, Chorus Instrumental Bridge Oh no, I'm not a teacher, Oh no, I never learned that lesson, Oh no, I'm not a preacher, Oh no, I never felt that strong, Oh no, I'm not a teacher, Oh no, I never learned that lesson, Oh no, I'm not a preacher, Oh no, I never felt that strong, Oh no, I'll put a black dress on... c1981KimAyrieMorris (original vinyl recording) c2011KimAyrieMorris
