Lawana G. Marcus also known as Badaul was born in Memphis Tennessee Where she Began singing at the age of five. Her first singing opportunity came when her mother world-renowned recording artist –Ernestine Dillard, formed a children’s gospel group called “The Divine Angles”. Badaul’s mother noticed she had a real talent for performing and decided to give her the opportunity to lead several songs.
Badaul continued to sing and because she enjoyed it so much, she decided to form her own singing group, thus “Noir Soul”’ was born. Many doors began to open for Noir soul they began performing for many diversified audience and opened for national recording artist Lo=Key.
After Noir Soul, Badaul had several opportunities to showcase her talent and in November 1992, she performed in the BMI Showcase in Seattle, Washington. And has since had performances in KUBE 93 home James at Club Popagayous in Bellevue Washington, The Seattle Center Amphitheatre, and pier 70 Bay Café for 1250 KFOX” the Melody Revue”.
Badaul decide to send a demo to recording artist William Bell. After hearing her voice Bell immediately signed her to a recording contract with his label, Wilbe/Wrap Records. With Bells label and influence, a new group was formed with Badaul as lead vocalist. The new group called “Flyy Grlz and also recorded under Bells labels. Although Flyy Grylz broke up in 1996 Badaul’s career continued to soar and she began opening in different venues for such recording artists as Confunkshun, Roger Troutman and Zapp, she also had an opportunity to go on an overseas tour.
Badaul can also boast of an equally promising acting career as she has performed in the play “the Wiz’ in which she performed two songs-one the munchkin song, Tiny Tim in the, and an African dancer in African American Women 1700 to 1987”. Television appearances have included several televised episodes of America’s Most Wanted, Rich Man’s Wife, Air China and Gospel Hour”.
Badaul has also performed for several civic organizations and local charities which were sponsoring fundraisers for schools, school choirs, and other organizations such as, “taking it to the Street with a beat:, Hosted a benefit concert designee to raise money to provide shores to families in a Tulsa , Oklahoma community. This talented young woman consistently uses her talent to give back to the community and her unselfishness encourages others to strive for the best in what they do. Each time she performs she gives more than 100 percent, she believe that her audience deserves the very best performance and no matter what she has decided to give it to them. There aren’t many artists with her style, flair for life, nor determination to offer a performance of the highest caliber
Badaul is now working with several producers such as Reginald (Wizard) Jones, Atlanta, Ricky Hill, Vallejo, CA and Kevin Phillips, Memphis, TN. Look for her new CD Scheduled to be released sometime next Year.
