Who is Black Suede?
Born by the name of Rod Dowling on April 26, 1988 in Rock Hill, South Carolina, Black Suede, soon after moved to Columbia, SC where he has spent most of his life. In his upbringing, Black Suede was taught to work hard and excel at whatever he chose to do in life. Beyond his scholastic/academic achievements, Suede had developed an unbridled passion to succeed in the music industry.
Black Suede had begun to seriously pursue his musical endeavors after graduating high school in 2006. Now in College (Francis Marion University: Business Finance Major), Suede realized that it’s “now or never,” so he began writing and producing for a number of artists until he’d built a strong following.
During the Summer of 2007, Suede had taken a page from his own “hustling” book and decided to sell his own Promotional CD’s out of the trunk of his car to create a heavy demand for his music. By the end of the Summer, Suede had created, both, a significant fan-base and a pretty good income. When asked about this, Suede replies: “{laughs}Well…That can be attributed to my Hustler’s mentality. I’ve always had it, and I always will.”
Suede’s style of music is, primarily, a mixture of smooth R&B, pop, hip-hop, (and many other Top-40 genres). It’s virtually impossible to “put Suede in a box.” His eclectic style and natural gift cannot be measured against any conventional style of music (present or past). If you’re a music lover (no matter the genre)….As we like to say around here, “SUEDE HAS A SONG FOR YOU.”
Suede is currently working harder than ever in the areas of: Singing, Songwriting (BMI), Music Production, and Entrepreneurship. With his immeasurable talent and Business savvy, Black Suede will truly make a significant mark in the music industry. Suede now resides in Columbia, SC where he continues to gain the love and approval among thousands of fans across the U.S. and abroad.
