And the winner is – the 35 nominees who turned out to the fourth annual Underground Awards at the weekend all anticipated hearing their name called in hope of taking home a top honour.
But it was international recording artist Brandon Kane, of Los Angeles, who was the top winner taking home three awards – Best Male Vocalist, Best New Artist and LA Virgil Artist of the Year.
The 15-year-old heart-throb is dubbed to be the next Chris Brown.
Brandon already has a fan base of more than 265,000 fans and more than 100 fan sites around the world.
With more than 4.2 million music plays in eight months on his website, he holds the title of 'Artist Of The Year' in numerous teen magazines and is a recipient of the Youth Star Award presented at the Las Vegas Music Awards in August, 2007.
He said: "I am so honoured to be winning these awards. Especially because this is another country. I am very honoured."
Tha Underground Awards were started as a way to promote unsigned artists. The awards are open to anyone worldwide, but the promoter, JT Talbot, tries to stick to a 60/40 rule – so 60 percent of the nominees are from the Island, in order to promote Bermudian artists.
See tomorrow's Royal Gazette for full coverage of Tha Underground Music Awards in The Scene, a special supplement for young people in Bermuda.

Young R&B star Brandon Kane, 16, wants to thank Chicago as he steps into the next stage of his stardom. “What's up to my peoples out in Chi-Town. Thanks for the love and keep supporting,” Kane told the Defender.
The Disney child star, who started out playing Young Simba in the stage production of the musical The Lion King, has taken 21st century technology and online entertainment to the next level. With over 10 million music plays on his MySpace page, he said Chicago is the number one city blowing up his fan site, giving him a lot of love.
He said the R&B album has songs that focus on the basic things adolescent men talk about including love and hanging out with the boys. He explained that while the album is tame and unlike much of the music geared towards his age group, it will not be corny. “I am 16, but I am not going along the lines of all the vulgar and profanity stuff,” he said.
“I keep it clean. I have to keep it clean for the children, and I will be keeping it clean for a very long time.” Kane said it is important for him to take his time growing up, “If you get too grown too quick it is kind of gonna backfire on you,” he added. He said one of his favorite songs on the album is Gotta Get That Girl.
“It's a real a happy song. It just feels like a skating rink kind of song where you just party with your friends,” he said. “Basically, all my songs, like Chit Chat, talk about talking to a girl. You have to shop around. You have to find that right one. ”
Kane explained that finding love could be very much like shopping at a store, “You just can't take the first one you see and take it home,” he said. “You have to take your time because there ain't no refunds. No refunds in love,” he said.
The star, who is also being called a new generation of old school R&B, was born in Indianapolis and raised in Los Angeles. He said he used to watch his sister perform in competitions and talent shows when he was younger.
By the age of 9, he was also dancing, singing and acting. “I chose music because I loved to perform, and I just love to see people’s reactions on their faces. I love to change people's lives by the lyrics in my songs,” Kane told the Defender.
Kane has been around good company in the entertainment business, singing background vocals for artists like Alicia Keys and Pink. He has performed with J Xavier, Chris Brown, Ne- Yo, Lil' Wayne, and he also opened for Ciara at a concert.
“I just love performing. It's like a roller coaster kind of. Like when you get on a roller coaster and get nervous. It's kind of like that with performing. It's like an adrenaline rush,” he said. In the future, he plans on writing his own songs and acting.
