Vicious Circle review on Metal Temple by Metal Temple
To just admit that Polish quintet CHAIN REACTION�s first full-length stunningly fleshes out the aural definition of the term "pleasant surprise" would be a major understatement. "Vicious Circle" is an awe-inspiring tour-de-force, a crazy roller-coaster ride through addictively catchy and immaculately crafted outbursts of noisy metallic rage. Producer extraordinaire Tomasz Zalewski masterfully harnesses the band�s maelstromic songwriting prowess, managing to sculpt their fist-like tightness into a sound so vitally real, forceful and aggressive that feels like no less than a welcome (and, miraculously, self-financed) punch in the gut. Pounding drums, earth-shattering bass-lines and Robb Flynn-like, throat-abrading shouts, all simultaneously shine, flawlessly mixed with the guitars� imposingly full-fledged, "meaty" tone. "Everlasting Fear", with its anthemic chorus and epically melodic six-string climax, comes across as memorably violent as something SHADOWS FALL might have constructed if for once they spared themselves being obligatorily subjected to their customary large amount of, well, polish. "Inner Struggle"�s dance-able, almost funky intro quickly gives its place to a vicious pummelfest of overlapping riffs, harmonies and macho, PANTERA-like vocal equivalents of squabbling. "Slave" throws some MAIDEN-esque twin guitar leads into the crucible, while "Disbelief" jumps onboard with a speedy, Thrash-y couplet that subsequently has its Rock�n�Roll vibe unexpectedly dissolved in an eastern-tinged semi-acoustic passage. From "Worlds Of War"�s marriage of spoken word and METALLICA�s ��Justice��-era grooves, to "Values" dramatic percussion or "Stark Reality"�s astonishingly arranged clash between SPIRITUAL BEGGARS� deafening psychedelia and ALICE IN CHAINS� whispery withdrawal (captured during a surprisingly quiet, beautifully peaceful segment of the tune), this is an album filled with an improbable plethora of seamlessly interwoven ideas, a record of pure head-banging bliss. Highly recommended to all of the metal-heads who have been spending most of these last months basking in MACHINE HEAD�s "blackened" sonic shadow. Someone sign these guys.

Groups that I hear from Poland, are at least interesting. This is also proved by Chain Reaction, a band that exists from 2002 but now released their debut. The album here is self-produced, thing that makes impression that such bands, would not supposed to be without a record deal. However, I am sure that Chain Reaction thanks to Vicious Circle will find soon find one. The first thing that impresses, is the exceptional sound, while immediately afterwards come amazing riffs to take out our head. From the very beginning it is evident that we have we make with a group that deals with modern Thrash sound (Machine Head), has a lot of influences from Pantera, while there are not absent some Death Metal points in order to force us break anything… The energy that the group manages to transmits is incredible and I would really want much to see how this tracks are heard live on stage. Their singer has as his basic influence Rob Flynn from Machine Head and in certain points he is almost same. The 11 tracks are melodic and groovy, while we have continuous changes of rhythms and sentiments. The things are simple. Chain Reaction created a powerful album, that would be a pity if it remained unnoticed. Groups that try to play in such way are tragically a lot, few however accomplish it and Chain Reaction is one of them. Well done!

Vicious Circle Review on Taraatean by Taraatean Desire
Modern, powerful, aggressive, but still melodic - Keywords to describe this felicitous album. Chain Reaction is the name of the Polish band who created it and Vicious Circle is the name of the CD itself. It's a self-financed debut album with awesome sound quality. The five guys had recorded two demo cds before, but this is the first full-length album, recorded in September 2007. Chain Reaction was founded in 2002 and attached much importance to playing live, which probably benefited their songs, because all seem to be capable for intensive headbanging. Also many of the songs are quite catchy. Songs like "Freedom" or "Everlasting Fear" could be potential modern metal anthems. The rhythmic guitar riffs and drums sometimes stamp like elephant feet and sometimes run furiously through the songs. And inbetween there are fine melodies, which can mostly be found in guitar solo and lead parts. The album contains a nice mixture of fast guitar solo parts and melodic ones, which sometimes even remind of classical heavy metal like in "Slave." Heavy Metal or rock influences can also be found in the beginning of "Freedom. Otherwise the band is influenced by rather modern groups: Chain Reaction can be assigned to the New or Modern Trash genre. They can be compared to bands like Machine Head or maybe Fear Factory. Singer Bartok prefers the metal- or hardcore vocal style: Growls with still listenable dirty voice. But there's enough variety with high grind cries, spoken vocals or a melodic vocal part in "Stark Reality," which is accompanied by a clean guitar line. While listening to the album it becomes clear that one deals with a really up-and-coming newcomer. Chain Reaction has got a quite unique style and Vicious Circle is an album which can not only convince fans of the modern thrash genre, but metal fans in general. Hopefully they will also soon convince a label.

Post Thrash Metal has taken a step back in the last few years. Except for a few bands that dabble with it that maintain the limelight (LAMB OF GOD, CHIMAIRA for example) most of the newer bands have taken to other forms of Metal. So when I began listening to CHAIN REACTION�s debut album, �Vicious Circle�, I was slightly surprised. Now CHAIN REACTION isn�t a straightforward Post Thrash Metal release either. It deviates from the structure quite a bit at times by incorporating a lot of classic Heavy Metal moments and even a sprinkling of Death Metal for kicks. But the true heart and soul of �Vicious Circle� is the Post Thrash groove that the band never loses throughout the entire album. It�s hard to deny the groove even in the beginning once those heavy chugging riffs start flowing. Partner those with very prominent and influential bass lines and a drum structure that gives the focus to the groove, and we have the basis of a good album for this kind of band. And the band does incorporate this solid foundation and then layer it with some interesting leads and a few solid solos (although these could have even been pushed further a bit). My favorite part of the album is their latest vocalist, Barton. He does a very good Post Thrash scream without going too much into the barking that later became a staple for the Metalcore scene. Spoken parts, some screechy squeals, and an overall just pissed off sound dominate the majority of the album and he does a great job with really complimenting the music. It�s nice that they finally found a vocalist they were comfortable with. It�s a solid album but not great by any means. Most of the song writing is good but it feels as though the band plays it safe the further into the album one gets. There are some awesome rhythm sections and a decent amount of technicality when it�s needed � but I still got the feeling that the band wasn�t throwing their best upfront. Then consider this: the band has no label and was still able to put out this album. For a self release, the production, mixing, and overall quality of sound for the album is great. Had a label given these guys a little more support so that they could focus more on song writing and less on paying the bills then this album could have been the next big thing. Songs to check out: �Worlds Of War�, �Values�, �Phantom Life�.

Vicious Circle review on Lords Of Metal by Lords of Metal
Chain Reaction is looking for a label and I suggest that label bosses would check out this band, since they recruit a potential hit with these five Polish guys. With this self-financed debut 'Vicious Circle' they prove that a robust modern metal album still has the right to exist in this extensive death/thrash scene. The band was founded by four friends in 2002 and only two years later vocalist Bartok joined the intensive rehearsing team. Two demos were recorded and a second guitarist Dani was added after they got some experience by playing as much gigs as possible. In September 2007 they recorded this full-length album at the ZED Studios in Poland. A chunky and dynamic sound is the result. Machine Head seems the main influence. Music-wise, but also vocal-wise because singer Bartok reminds me a lot of Rob Flynn with his intelligible growls, though he reminded me a bit of Lemmy too in the song 'Worlds Of War'. The reason why this album is amazing can be found in the guitar skills of Wodzirej and Dani. They swallow the bait, but never forget the melodic element either. Each song includes a fine extra. In 'Worlds Of War' it is a spoken sampler with delicious guitar ornaments, in the stomping 'Values' I get a kick of the phasing effect on guitars and in the steamy 'Stark Reality' I love the part with clean vocals and acoustic guitars. That's why the entire album remains exciting. A semblance of modern metalcore can be heard on the record as well. 'Freedom' should be a proper single because of its catchy chorus, while the slower 'Slave' appears to be another favourite of mine. With a bit of luck we will hear a lot about this band in future! In 'Stark Reality' they sing: "In the end you're the master of the scene' and let us hope this might be a vision of future.
