SSP Recordings featured Recording Artist...Percussionist/Songwriter/Producer Felix Langford, began his musical journey at the age of eleven, taking violin lessons. At that time, the violin was not considered to be a "very cool" instrument,he was teased constantly. So, Felix turned his violin case around and carried it like it was a saxophone.Felix still loves the strings and you'll hear them in his music. After his oldest brother, nicknamed,"Dr.John",who had traveled the world as a United States Air Force Mechanic, returned home..."Doc" as he was called was into all the Jazz Heavyweights...Wes Montgomery,Grant Green,Coltrane,Miles,Dizzy,Candido Camera and Mongo Santamaria,to name a few....He was the one responsible for teaching Felix the beats and exposing his ears to some of the hippist cats on the jazz scene,"Love You,Doc!"Meanwhile,"The Motown Sound",Chic Corea,Herbie Hancock and all the multitude of talented artists, back in the day also touched Felix, but,of all the groups,"The Elements of The Universe-Earth,Wind And Fire!"...have remained at the top of Felix's list,"The Baddest Band in the Land!" Big Ups to Maurice White,Phillip Bailey,Verdine White,Ralph Johnson and the rest of "The Fellas." While furthering his education, studying music theory and voice at the Wisc.Conservatory of Music and piano labs at M.A.T.C.and also attending UW-Milw;studying psychology, linguistics and history,Felix played with many bands over the years in different genres of music;reggae,r&b,blues, rock and jazz, etc;Felix has also played in bands at"Summerfest,African World Festival,Jazz in the Park",opening for R&B Legend,"Smokey Robinson", Ol'School Crooners,"The Dramatics" and "Freddy'Rock Me Tonight'Jackson"; also Jazz greats;Saxophonists-"Najee","Kim Waters" and "Mindi Abair".But,performing with Jazz great;Guitarist- "Nick Colionne" was the turning point for Felix...He would never be the same....Thanks Nico!!! Felix says playing with Nick was the place he wanted to be,but,"The Almighty" had other plans...After writing his own grooves for years it was time for Felix to be heard...When asked why he chose to start writing his own music Felix says,"The percussionist is always the first to go when a band needs to cut costs.I just got tired of being cut, just when you feel like you belong. So,I was pushed, more or less, into the direction of writing music. It's funny, when you hear most recordings almost every song has some form of percussion in it,but, see a band live and you won't see a percussionist**(only the drummer)**,unless it's a Latin/Afro Cuban or World Music Group, etc;Big,Big Ups to "The Almighty" because with the creation of music workstations, sequencers and digital recorders,I can write the grooves I hear in my head,it's lonely sometimes, but, who knows maybe one day I'll have my own band!" Now the world can experience the Joy Felix brings in his music with the release of his first self-produced cd titled,"Rebirth",12 songs(72min. & 49sec.) of love.Felix says,"It's not so much about me,It's all about the music!"(Enjoy!)Coming in Early/Mid 2010/11,"Can We Dance?",his second cd.................Look For It!!!!!!
