Young sisters bring mature country sound to Puck by Lisa Rich - New Jersey Times
Imagine "miles and miles of open road." If your mental picture includes warm, Southern air blowin' through your hair, then this weekend you'll find the music to match. Meet Maria and Sarah Fitzmaurice, identical twin sisters who founded the Fitzmaurice Band, as 20-year-olds in 2006. The sisters have added other members to the band and are bringing their talent and twang to Puck tomorrow night in Doylestown, Pa. Still in the ever-changing phase of being 20-something, these ladies sound as seasoned and professional as the big timers who grace Country Music Television and radio every day. Take Maria, the main vocalist, who can be compared to sweetheart Sarah Evans. Her vocals are smooth, touched with moments of originality, and powerful. Take the song, "Cross Your Mind," in which Maria can make a heart swoon as she sings, "Why did I let you drag me so far down? You say I'm breaking up your heart, but look who's breaking mine." In the background, Sarah comes in with a strong soprano, rounding out the number with a hint of strength but vulnerability. Other bandmates include good friend Brandon Snellings, a skilled mandolin player who also takes on the lead male vocals throughout their repertoire. Mike Simms adds depth with his banjo stylings -- a trade he left in his early teens until joining the band years later (welcome back). Last but not least is Aaron Malone, who brings the much-needed fiddle to the group to really give it that bluegrass vibe. In his musical career, Malone has played with Grammy-winning composer Billy Childs, percussionist Alex Acuna, and under the baton of Henri Mancini. But the group is not just about bluegrass, though they're darn good at it. They also incorporate jazz, classical and folk into their songs....

People tend to dismiss things which at first glance might seem gimmicky. Yes, Fitzamaurice is composed, in part, of 21 year old twins Maria & Sarah Fitzmaurice, and yes they are stunning and downright mesmerizing, but if you think they look good, wait till your ears and heart kick-in. Thirty seconds into "Cross Your Mind" and you will immediately forget they are twins and see them as amazing songwriters and artists, and 30 seconds later think "holy moly major world class talent going places big time soon"... and guess what; Brandon Snellings, Aaron Malone, and Mike Simms are equally talented. Do not deny the serendipity which brought you here. These young folk are the real deal. Get their new CD and if you are an eBayer get yourself 2 dated & signed copies, one to keep and one for your IRA.

Stellar musicianship, youthful and energetic stage appearance, and MONSTER vocals can be expected while attending a Fitzmaurice band performance. This band demanded my attention and kept me waiting for the next tune when I saw them live last Spring. When these folks deliver a song, they're not faking it. The feel in every downbeat as well as the soul that breathes in every lyric is the real deal!
