Michael Clogher - Lead Vocals Michael E. Clogher IV was born in New Orleans, La. He grew up in South Louisiana but lived in Cincinnati, Ohio from 1993 to 2003. While living in Cincinnati Michael married his beautiful wife Vickie and they now have three wonderful children, Ashley, Michael and Anna. Michael had a love for music from an early age but never did much singing in public until he joined a praise and worship team in 2003. He went on to lead a contemporary worship service at 1st Baptist Church in Picayune, Mississippi for 3 years. After much prayer, Michael was led by God to step down from this leadership role to pursue singing with GS3. While singing in the praise and worship band at 1st Baptist in Picayune, MS Michael met Travis Kennedy. There was an instant connection between the two that went far beyond the music. Michael has an unwavering love for Jesus Christ. His desire is to spread the message of Christ to all the world through his music. On any normal day, you might find Michael behind the wheel of an 18 wheeler or at his local church where he serves as the youth pastor and music minister. When he is not working or spending time with his family you could probably find him hanging out with his buddies from GS3 or on his motorcycle or four wheeler.
Travis Kennedy - Lead/Rhythm Guitarist I was born in a little town called Picayune, Mississippi in the deep south. Growing up I loved listening to Elvis Presley music and watching his movies. I never did develop the pipes needed for singing, so I took up the guitar instead. I’ve been playing lead guitar for about 25 years. My musical influences range from blues, country, to good ol’ rock and roll. I love them all. In my musical career thus far, I have been fortunate enough to tour the country with a professional band that opened for over 20 major label artists. These artists include Lee Roy Parnell, The Kentucky Headhunters, Leann Rimes, and Restless Heart to name just a few. The big stage and lights are very exciting. Geri Grubbs was the drummer for this band and he is like my brother. We have played many songs in many towns together. I was introduced to praise and worship music at my church. We have a band at our church and I was asked to fill in for a little while. While getting used to the format, I fell in love with this style of music. The music spoke deeper to me than any other. After meeting Michael Clogher at church, I felt a desire to start a band with him in this vein of music. He and I are kindred spirits. I think of him as my brother. There is so much more meaning to this band and music than any other I have ever been associated with. Not only is it great Christian entertainment, but it also has a chance to really help folks. I am proud to be using my abilities for God. When I don’t have my hands around a guitar, I like to go camping, four wheeler riding, watch movies, workout, vacation, or play golf. But, above all of this I love my wife and two children and relish spending time with them. Life seems to move at a dramatic pace these days, and you can never have enough time with your loved ones. I accepted Jesus Christ as my Lord and Savior when I was a teenager in high school. I am so glad the Lord has blessed me with what little bit of talent I have so that I can use it to help further his Kingdom on earth. Our preacher said one Sunday, “when you get to Heaven is there going to be anybody there that you helped get there?” It hit me like a ton of bricks.
Geri Grubbs - Drums / Vocals Geri Grubbs was born in Mccomb , Mississippi and has been a life long native of south Mississippi. His love of music comes from his parents. Geri gave his life to the Lord at the age of 8, at St. Mark Methodist Church in Tupelo, Ms. (It is directly across the street from Elvis Presley’s birthplace) At the age of 12 Geri sat behind his first drum kit, (that his parents bought him for Christmas) and since that time has never looked back. At age 15 he was playing with a traveling gospel quartet out of Mobile, Alabama as a summer job. During high school and college, Geri continued to play different concerts, events and contests. In 1980 his band took first place honors in a regional battle of the bands event held in the Mississippi Coast Coliseum, (there were over 40 entries). In 1990, he was the co-founder of a country band that was signed to a national record deal in 1995, and traveled across the country full time for 7 years. He has had the privilege of touring with great professional country artists such as Joe Diffie, Leroy Parnell, Leann Rimes, Kentucky Headhunters and John Michael Montgomery, just to name a few. His current Christian project with GodSpeed3 has more excitement and energy than any other project he has ever worked on. To be able to use your talent for what God has intended is the best feeling in the world. GS3 Guitarist Travis Kennedy was also a part of our 1991-1998 country tour and we have been close friends since. Now to work together on something like this and to be able to share our belief in Christ with others is an unbelievable opportunity. When not playing music, Geri will most likely be found at home with his wife and 2 daughters, or on the water bass fishing (his second love).
Chris Speir - Keyboards/Rhythm Guitarist Christopher B. Speir was born in Picayune, Mississippi on May 4th 1974 . At the age of 15 he picked up the guitar for the first time. A year later he founded the Christian rock group BORN AGAIN. BORN AGAIN played several churches in the Pearl River County, Mississippi area and in 1992 was invited to play eight shows in Monterey, Mexico . In 1993, BORN AGAIN dissolved due to other obligations by the members. Chris concentrated on song writing and assisted other artists in the local area by developing their music. In the summer of 1993, Chris founded the band “Diligence” which played extensively at churches and benefit concerts raising money for the less fortunate. Solicited by a major record label to play in Tulsa, Oklahoma during a Christian music festival, Diligence was unable to attend and regretfully the band dissolved. In 1994, Chris played as a studio musician for John Davis Wilkinson in Florida . He was offered a full time studio musician job and had to turn it down due to enlisting in the United States Air Force. In the summer of 1995 prior to leaving for boot camp, Chris went to Nashville, Tennessee with John Wilkinson to record a three song project. Chris recorded in the very studio that gold album artist Ricky Van Shelton recorded. Chris left for the military, continuing to write songs leading up to auditioning for GS3. for the record, Geri has never asked chris to go bass fishing with him.
Warren Beane Bass Guitar. Warren was born in Arlington, Va in 1972 and moved to Mississippi when he was a kid. He started playing guitar in 1991 and has played in several bands since then. He started playing bass on the side about six years ago, playing for his church, Lighthouse Assembly of God in Poplarville, Ms. He joined World Outreach Revival Center’s youth band as their bass player three years ago, playing for their youth on Tuesday nights. He was lead singer and rhythm guitar player for the band Glassbox for two years, until the bands break-up in November of 2008. Warren has recorded in three studios, one of which was the same studio that Todd Agnew recorded his first demo cd, in Memphis, Tn. Currently, Warren is the Worship Leader at Church of the Way in Picayune, MS.

A band to watch — GodSpeed3 by Picayune Item

Since being chosen to open for the band Casting Crowns at “Praise in the Park” in Lucedale, locally based Christian rock band GodSpeed3 has gained momentum — and they’re still picking up speed. The group just returned from Nashville, Tenn., where they were working to put down the initial tracks on what they hope will become their first CD. This was the groundwork for their newly acquired development deal, announced in the Item earlier this year, with Indevo Records. The band’s plan is to head back to Nashville in a couple months to finish up the recordings by adding another six songs. “I’ve done a lot of recording, but those recordings really sound good,” said Travis Kennedy, lead guitarist for the group. “I can’t wait for the finished product.” While in session, the group got a chance to meet and work with Dove Award winning sound engineer, Mark Drury. Drury has earned his Dove, and other Dove nominations, because of his work with both the Dave Crowder band and Big Daddy Weave, two top notch Christian groups, according to Kennedy. After the band’s recordings are completed, as part of the deal, InDevo Records will shop them to bigger labels. “They heard something or saw something in us that they want to try to develop,” Kennedy said. “If something happens, great. If nothing happens, that’s great too.” While the group is interested in gaining national attention so they can help as many people as possible, their main focus is always God. With their gazes firmly fixed on Him, the group also caught the attention of Al Gomes. Gomes’ company, Big Noise, has acted as a the Webmaster for some big mainstream recording artists, such as Christina Aguilera. An agreement was just reached where he will serve as an artist consultant for GodSpeed3, to complete the package. The group will have a full itinerary working with Gomes for the next 12 months, said Kennedy, and they are all excited about it. GodSpeed3, a very young music ministry, approximately one and a half years old, grew out of persistence. Michael Clogher, the lead singer for the music ministry of First Baptist Church Picayune, kept inviting Kennedy to come and play with him and his Sunday worship group. Kennedy, a professional musician, said he was admittedly hesitant about getting involved with the Christian genre. “I never been around that kind of music. It’s a big difference playing on Sunday morning in daylight with sober people there, versus late at night and there ain’t no sober people around,” he said. “You got to be on top of your game there, they’re a lot more discerning.” However, Clogher and Kennedy became friends and eventually started talking about doing their own thing. Once they got drummer Geri Grubbs on board, well, the rest is history. “We went through some folks, looking for the right folks, but the cast we got now is a really good group of people, I really like them,” said Kennedy. They just acquired the last piece of the puzzle, another layer to their sound, keyboard player Danny Gros. Making up Godspeed3 are Kennedy of Picayune, lead/rhythm guitar; Clogher of Poplarville, lead vocals; Grubbs of Picayune, drummer; Chris Speir of Picayune, keyboards/rhythm guitar; Mark Beech of Pass Christian, bass guitar; Jennifer Drennan of Slidell, La., lead/back up vocals and Gros of Ponchatoula, La., keyboards. When they play a show, they try to give it a rock concert feel, but with the “good message.” They use cool lights, including robos and strobes, and a smoke machine, to get the crowd going. “We’ve been having fun with it,” Kennedy said. “We’re very respectful with it, but we’ve been having some fun with it too, trying to show people that hey, you can listen to Christian music and worship God and still be cool.” Look forward to hearing more about his up and coming local group. For their next big gig, the band will open for Audio Adrenaline at Resurrection Life Church in Picayune on Saturday, March 7. Time is TBA.
