Matt received his first guitar from his father at the age of 6. He began taking formal lessons at age 8 and was teaching guitar by the time he was 16.
Drawing upon such varied influences as Claude Debussy, Francis Poulenc, Franz Schubert, Django Reinhardt, Tony Rice and Stephane Grappelli, Matt is also just as comfortable playing along with Eddie Van Halen.
After obtaining his Doctorate in Music Composition in 1996, Matt embarked on his full time teaching career and has mentored numerous students from ages 6 to 60.
“This recording is a "snapshot" of where I am with my guitar right now. There is much truth about the joy being in the journey more than the destination.”
Matt believes there is nothing like “the unique relationship that is formed between musicians and the mutual elation gleaned from successfully moving beyond the average, and accomplishing something unique and beautiful. “
