This, Boston, is the show you go to when it's high time to throw back a few Rapscallions, dance till your limbs tingle, and celebrate your new job at Berklee College of Music. How do I know? Because for me, that time is tonight. Join me, won't you? Riding Shotgun at 9 to get the heart started. Naked On Roller Skates at 10 to mix the love into the blood. Muy Cansado at 11 to make sure the electricity goes all the way to the fingertips & toenails -- and I hear they are keeping up their tradition of one new song per show. I hope tonight's is about a woman who gets a sweet new job and has a super fun time dancing to good music. That'd be the bees knees.

...Coyne describes Naked On Roller Skates as, "straight-up rock band with indie-pop influences." Although I'm influenced by folk music, I definitely wanted it to rock a little bit more than that stuff," she said. Coyne also mentioned that some of her influences in creating the band were her classic rock heroes Led Zeppelin and Black Sabbath, offset by her love of singer/songwriters and folk music like Bob Dylan. NORS has been together a little over a year, created about seven years after Coyne began her solo career as a local musician. Coyne has played many gigs all over the greater Boston area. Two of her favorite regular bars to play are The Middle East and T.T. The Bears in Cambridge. ;;;

December 7th, Naked On Roller Skates at Church of Boston Naked on Roller Skates -- the band gets two thumbs up for a great whimsical name. What’s in a name? Those whom we call Naked on Roller Skates by any other name would sound as sweet. Yes, they would probably sound the same with another name. But really, we wouldn’t want them to have gone with any other. Despite sharing their name with Maxwell Bodenheim’s 1930 novel about beat life in Manhattan, the band gets two thumbs up for a great whimsical name. Musically they fit nicely into the power pop scene with melodies like those of singer Emily Haines of Metric. Fortunately, unlike Romeo and Juliet, Bodenheim’s novel comes with a happy ending; as for Naked On Roller Skates . . . just keep skating naked.

Tonight they’re presenting two awesome bands and finishing off the night with a dance party for the ages. First up is Naked on Roller Skates, who build their sound around lead singer Leesa Coyne’s soulful voice and confident songwriting and eventually whip audiences into a toe tapping, hand clapping frenzy. Joining Coyne are Boston rock mainstays Kelly Davidson, Randall Creasi and Travis Richter, which is quite the powerful lineup; some would call them a supergroup (some of those people are me).

Closing out the night will be the infectious pop stylings of Naked On Roller Skates, and catchy is the word. While vocalist Leesa Coyne holds her own with a vocal quality that is unique and instantly recognizable (a quality quickly becoming more and more of an endangered species among vocalists), show-goers are sure to have the laser-precise leads of Travis Richter (The Motion Sick) visiting their dreams and lightening their steps for the rest of the work week.

East Coast Playlist by Naked On Roller Skates – “Sugar”
Naked on Roller Skates are a fairly new band hailing from Boston, Massachusetts. They’ve only played about six shows, but are well worthy to be on my playlist. Frontwoman Leesa Coyne and her band know how to rock out and have a good time. The song “Sugar” featured here is so catchy you’ll have it in your head for days. They also do a great cover of Fleetwood Mac’s “Gold Dust”. Naked on Roller Skates have pop sensibility, a classic rock attitude, and punk rock energy. Check out their ReverbNation page for some other great songs (I recommend streaming “The Fighter”).
