A native Washington, D.C. jazz ensemble, PHAZE II has a unique style that bridges the gap between traditional and contemporary jazz. Their sound is smooth and rhythmic, fused with eclectic blends of jazz. This six-piece ensemble has extensive backgrounds in music that produce a wonderful chemistry on and off stage.
PHAZE II has performed locally as well as throughout the United States. Some of their performances include, but are not limited to, the following: Grand Opening of a D.C. Cable TV facility attended by Washington, D.C.’s Mayor Anthony Williams, WJZ-TV Channel 13 (CBS Affiliate) Eyewitness News Sunday Morning Holiday Music Series - in Baltimore, MD, Channel 76 cable television show “It’s About Time TV,” Bohemian Caverns, Takoma Station, The Kennedy Center, Blues Alley Jazz Supper Club, Safeway Barbecue Battle, LIVE on Penn Lunch Time Series, The Sugar Bar (New York), Opus 88, Jaspers, WSMJ-104.3 Smooth Jazz Capital Jazz Fest Kick-off Party, and the BET on Jazz Restaurant. The sounds of PHAZE II can be heard on IM4Radio.com (internet station) and on Smooth Jazz 105.9 Sunday Brunch with Al Santos.
In a short time, the group has had many accomplishments most recently winning the 2005 Capital Jazz Fest Challenge. This honor not only awarded PHAZE II with a monetary prize but also gave the band the opportunity to open the Capital Jazz Fest (three-day event) on the main stage.
The ensemble now includes six artists who are dedicated to creating beautiful sounds and melodies. While keeping their originality, their music fuses familiar sounds of some of the well known fathers of jazz like Miles Davis, Thelonis Monk, and John Coltrane but also blends contemporary rhythmic styles like Pieces of A Dream and Spyro Gyra.
