Name: ...soihadto... (Rahn Drewen - Guitar/Vocals, John Smith - Guitar/Vocals, Paul Rudolf - Bass, Robin Eckman - Drums) Sounds Like: We don't think anyone really likes to answer this question. Everyone likes to believe that they have a unique sound and don't sound like anything you've heard before. Our songs combine a variety of influences from indie to punk to hardcore to soul-funk and an incomparable melodic approach. With that being said...people have reported that while it varies song to song, we can sound like Tool and Pink Floyd got together with Quicksand and Mogwai to form a band. I guess we like to keep it pretty open. History: This band goes back quite some time ago. Rahn, John and Paul formed a band around 1995 called Echo 7 which performed around the Baltimore and Annaplolis area of Maryland. They often performed with a band called Cookie Head Jenkins of which Robin was a member. By 2000 these bands had both split up and Rahn was looking for a new project. He teamed up with Echo 7 drummer Scott Smith and two other musicians from Baltimore to form a band called ...And So I Had To Eat Her. After about a year Rahn decided to shorten the name to ...soihadto... and the band performed as an all instrumental outfit. Around 2006 half of the group decided to call it quits. Rahn though refused to give up and brought in two other friends to keep it going. By 2010 the band had played shows from Baltimore to Austin, TX and all the way up to Anchorage, AK. The all instrumental album Adventure Stories (not based on fact?) was released in February of 2010 and was very well received. After 10 years as an instrumental band it was time to change things up. When some disagreements among band members threatened to end the whole musical journey there was only one thing to do. In 2011 Rahn parted ways with the other guys and called up his friends from long ago. First call was to Paul to bring in the low end. Then it was decided to not just stay an instrumental act. John was called to flush out guitars and share vocal duties with Rahn. When it came time to pick a drummer we all knew that there was only one guy we could count on to pull off our vision. Robin agreed to join and the band was complete. The guys spent 2012 writing and recording. On January 8, 2013 the band released their new self titled album. It's been a long journey to get to this point, but it's exactly where we want to be, and we've got the sound we've been wanting. We are looking forward to this next stage of ...soihadto... and hope that all this effort pays off! Something Special: We built a recording studio in Rahn's basement just to record our latest album. He has three pug dogs that like to just hang out there when we are trying to record. Pugs are great and very cute but they also snore even when they are awake. Having to keep 3 pugs quiet in a recording studio is a full time job unto itself! We finally just decided that they are part of the band now. We plan on releasing some new material as often as possible now that we have our own studio. UC Takeaway: "Never give up. Never give in," said the members of ...soihadto.... "We play music because we have to. We would all be very hard to deal with if we didn't have this outlet. It's not about being famous or making a ton of money. Of course we wouldn't shy away from those things if they happened! It's just never been our goal. Make music because you desire it. Make music because you believe in it. Things will happen for you if you stay true to yourself and the music." When you're starting a career in the music industry - or any career for that matter - it's important to ask yourself what your long-term goals are. You don't have to know what the future holds, but if you take the time to really clear your head and figure out what you want out of life, it will help steer your decisions along the way. For ...soihadto..., the plan is just to keep making music and to enjoy doing so. That's a wonderful attitude to have, and it puts the focus on the product rather than a record deal or a world tour. But if your dream is to travel the country playing music, then you should invest more energy in touring than recording. Whatever your goals may be, take the time to really think them through - then you'll be sure to head down the right path for you. So mull it all over and listen to ...soihadto... below!

HFS Locals Only Spotlight: …soihadto… by SPAM - HFS 97.5FM
Tonight’s HFS Locals Only Spotlight features a new release by an Annapolis experimental alternative rock band named …soihadto… What do they sound like, you ask? Depends on the song. Sometimes, it’s leaning very much toward punk and hardcore; other times, it’s full-on funk-rock; and yet another listen might reveal some other vein of melodic indie rock. Suffice it to say, you’re bound to run across a track that grabs your attention. The new self-titled, self-released album by …soihadto… comes out tomorrow, January 8th; you’ll be able to find it (along with their previous stuff) on iTunes. Soundtrack for an epic science fiction movie! by Dakota Hommes
...soihadto... (that's their actual name) has created the soundtrack for an incredibly epic science fiction movie. Don't look for the movie online; it hasn't even been conceived yet. But I have confidence that it's a movie I will eventually take my grand kids to go see in the distant future. This is made of songs that start out simple and then build until it's the most rocking thing you can possibly imagine. Until you go to the next track. The drums are a fantastic foundation for epic guitar solos without being excessive. It never reaches that moment of "too much." The guitars have some pretty cool effects that are used sparingly and frequently in the background. I'm also pretty curious about the backwards voices on "Searching For The Cure" (I wonder who's dead this time?) I would call this a progressive album because of the long length of the tracks and the way that the songs can change within one of those tracks. On the other hand, some of the shorter songs have the raw energy of a punk band. Progressive punk? Is that a thing? Maybe it is now. Whatever it is, I like it. Something that's fun to do, especially with instrumental music, is to close your eyes and visualize an imaginary movie that would go with the music. I do this at concerts sometimes. In my head this album is full of alien assassinations, cool cars, a lot of running, and shifty government contracts. I can't wait for it to be in theaters. What do you see when you listen to it? One could write a whole trilogy of films while you listen to this album. Adventure Stories (Not Based On Fact?)" is out now on PFC Records.
