Vertigo Venus is like putting The Dead Kennedys, New Order, and Twisted Sister into a blender and hitting “Awesome”.
Based out of Albuquerque, NM, Vertigo Venus has a unique sound unlike that of any other; powerful and energetic, Vertigo Venus meshes Punk, Rock, Electronic and Industrial to create a hybrid that your ears haven’t yet heard.
Fronted by Jeff Cannon (Vocals/Keyboards), and brother Chris Cannon (Guitars/Backing Vocals), the band is rounded out by Ken Cornell (Bass), brian botkiller (Drums/Percussion) and Jess Crockett (Keyboards).
Vertigo Venus is not a band to be trifled with; with Jeff’s frontman antics reminiscent of Iggy Pop and Freddie Mercury and an energy between the members not common in most bands, they kick out high-energy original tunes including “Monday Mourning”, “Vampire Hunter C”, and the ultra-catchy, sing-along-like-you-mean it “Punk Rock Cheerleader”, and even a cover of Cyndi Lauper’s “She Bop”. One thing is for sure; you won’t soon forget a Vertigo Venus live show.
Live? Yes, quite alive. Vertigo Venus isn’t like every other band on a stage. They’ve shared the stage with the likes of Blue Oyster Cult, Chemlab, My Life with the Thrill Kill Kult, War, and more. They’ve been a mainstay in New Mexico’s annual Gay Pride festival, and the Southwest’s longest running electronic music festival, Oscillation. They know that this is the entertainment business – and that’s what they come to do; entertain you like you haven’t been before. With a sound that will take you from Punk to Glam Dance faster than you can say “Brutal”, the band truly takes the stage and gives the crowd what they’re looking for.
As the band opened for Mindless Self Indulgence and The Birthday Massacre in 2008, they saw first hand the fruits of providing a truly entertaining experience to their fans. Merchandise sold out immediately, putting the band’s first CD, “Sing Pretty!” out of print. Their second outing, “Run for your Lives”, is close to following suit. Their shirts and stickers can’t be kept on the shelves of popular stores in Malls and on the internet. The third album, slated for a late 2009 release, is sure to take the band to the next level. Fans are rabid for Vertigo Venus’ sound and persona, and it shows in their huge hits to their Website and Myspace pages everyday, along with their great turnouts to the sixty (yes, sixty) plus live shows the band plays every year.
Vertigo Venus has kept busy outside bars and clubs as well, taking on the role as The Angry Inch in The Vortex Theatre’s stage production of “Hedwig and the Angry Inch”. Taking on the daunting task of playing the iconic role, they delivered; a month and a half long run garnered reviews calling the production better than the original, with more heart in the music than ever seen before. The band’s versatility and creativity came through in creating a new and fresh image for the world-renown production.
Vertigo Venus is consistently looking to write fresh, innovative and creative music with heart and soul behind it. This is a band who loves what they do, and loves playing. The bond between the five members has only grown in the time they’ve been together, and will only continue to grow as they work to be the best at what they do.
If you’re looking for a band that can deliver on all fronts, Vertigo Venus is your band.
