The band HYRAID is more than a reggae band, it is an institution built on the philosophy of musical development, and social cohesiveness via the medium of reggae music. HYGRAID holds firm belief in its ancestral heritage and cultural diversity, aspiring to deliver positive vibes and establish itself as a leading ambassador of reggae music. With a desire to write and record original material, the band aims to be internationally relevant and produce high quality musical offerings for its audiences. The name HYGRAID represents Higher Learning, Understanding, Vision and Entertainment inspiring each member and persons influenced by this talented group to achieve higher in their every undertaking. Established on September 23rd 2009 in the island of Barbados by drummer Shawn Gittens, HYGRAID set forth on a musical journey which has won the hearts of Barbadian and regional audiences alike. In 2010 this innovative unit won two (2) awards in the categories of Best Reggae Single and The Caribbean Broadcasting Corporation People’s Choice Awards at the 2010 Barbados Music Awards for their hit single Pressure Point featuring lead singers Peach and SupaStar. This reggae fusion was produced by guitarist/producer Marlon Fox at Fox Hole Studio. The band has performed at all the major reggae events in Barbados including the Barbados Reggae Festival 2011 and 2012 and also The Hennessy Artistry Show 2010. With a vision of reaching the society with its message, HYGRAID took initiative in planning self sustained community shows across the island of Barbados. Under the title THE HYGRAID REGGAE ROAD SHOW, this enterprising group employed the services of all the top reggae acts from Barbados and launched the series of road shows at the Oistins Bay Garden in 2010. HYGRAID also enjoyed several months on the club circuit in Barbados maintaining weekly gigs at the Reggae Lounge in St. Lawrence Gap and Bump and Wine Café. In 2011 the band released a new single entitled Someone Like You featuring Peach, a reggae remake of a song originally done by British singer Adele. The remake was produced by saxophonist/producer Randy Eastmond at Quantum Productions. This release has gained much momentum for the band and fantastic reviews on youtube climbing to over 400,000 views in a matter of months. With two recognized Barbadian producers in the band HYGRAID’s recording discography continued to increase with more releases such as Honeymooners, Borrow You, Somebody Somewhere, Mr. Murderer all featuring Peach and Right Things and No Stressing featuring Supastar.   The band is currently in studio working on new material in preparation for their debut album in 2013 and also rehearsing and preparing for performances at a few music festivals in 2012 and 2013. HYGRAID is committed to its vision of a unified society through use of culture and the arts sharing its vision with homeland Barbados and countries across the world.
