Lyrics

CHRISTMAS IN THE KITCHEN Went to mom’s a year ago on Christmas day Everyone was having such a real good time But something happened to take all that fun away Mom said she had something that was on her mind She was always known to be so very meek and mild The way she acted was just not her style That's the day we heard her say “I spent Christmas in the kitchen because no one else would pitch in. Now I'm just itching for a fight. I did so many dishes I thought my hands were fishes As all my prayers and wishes were denied I spent Christmas in the kitchen for the last time” We all hoped that mom was only fooling us Pretending that she was in a real bad mood But what would Christmas be if she was serious? Who would take us in and fix up so much good food? As we realized that her mood was quite sincere The future of our Christmas became clear That’s the day We heard her say “I spent Christmas in the kitchen because no one else would pitch in. Now I'm just itching for a fight. I did so many dishes I thought my hands were fishes As all my prayers and wishes were denied I spent Christmas in the kitchen for the last time” Who could we find to pick the recipes? Who’s got the time to frost all the cookies? Who'd volunteer to cook the big ol’ bird? Who? I say who if not her? It’s Christmas day again and we’re all back at mom’s counting on things going a lot smoother this year. Still we're hoping and praying she won’t drop more bombs And ruin all the fun and the good Christmas cheer So I handed her the phone and I said “Order what you please” “It’s Christmas Day” she said “let’s do Chinese” And as she dialed She winked and smiled Because she’d spent Christmas in the kitchen When no one else would pitch in and she was itching for a fight. She did so many dishes she thought her hands were fishes As all her prayers and wishes were denied She'd spent Christmas in the kitchen Christmas in the kitchen She'd spent Christmas in the kitchen for the last time Music & lyrics by Timothy Neil Tegge Copyright 2005
