Description

My wife is a psychotherapist who frequently begs clients to stop "borrowing trouble" when they bring more issues to the table than the important ones. I immediately knew that this would be a great country hook. When I sat down to write it, I was in a economics frame of mind and the song just wrote itself as a love sick song using the economy as a metaphor.

Lyrics

When I first laid eyes on you/thought sorrows debts were paid in full. Now I feel like the Lehman Brothers do. Thought you were worth your weight in gold/now I believe what my mamma told: "be careful son, how you spend your love". (Chorus): She said I was borrowing trouble $pending time with you/borrowing trouble/payment's overdue. You first put your hand in mine/and on the wallet, in the pocket near my behind/thought my emotional pauper days were through. Let's get married/I thought we must. You exclaimed. "in God we trust", oh my God, I felt just like a fool because I was: (Chorus)/(Bridge): Some people say we're in a recession/feel I'm headed for the great depression. (instrumental). They say love's economy is on the mend/my love's depleted no more to lend/I guess that's how this crisis is gonna end. Pull myself up by my boot straps instead of throwing dice and shooting craps/my heart is broke/I got no love to spend. Cuz I'm still..........Can't stop........
