By Now is essentially about not being where you want to be in your life. The verse is in 1st person, while the chorus switches to third person. When you set up a blueprint for your life, and it doesn't go as you planned, Frustration sets in, which is the feeling of By Now. It's also incredibly selfish because the song asks, why don't you see my point of view, and do things the way I would? The 2nd verse, I manage to pull myself together and basically tell myself that it will come together.
