Description

I wrote this song for a girl who had a bit of a troubled past and was terrified by the labeling of relationships and 'boyfriend-girlfriend'. I had a thing for her. But I knew better than to try to put a title on it. So rather than getting caught up in the Big Picture of what love is and what it means, I chose to focus on the every day things. The small idiosyncrasies and nuances that I loved most about what had grown between us.

Lyrics

Desperate times are escaping you and me We spend our lives with hopes to build something that we could love to protect and we could love, love, love to protect whatever it is we've made. Take a sip of sake and shake the day from your head I know you needed to make money, babe, but we all do to some degree No one else can listen when we let whispers kiss the silence in your room And we could love to protect We could love, love, love to protect whatever it is we've made You've washed off your makeup and I'm amazed your eyes still sparkle And surprised just to find that you remembered how I noticed Well hocus pocus, babe, Look at what we've made. Yours were closed and mine were focused somewhere else The red numbers on the clock were fair and taking turns I'm waking every hour and smiling just to find that you're half an inch away I sang aloud, while you slept, that we could love, love, love to protect whatever it is we've made Desperate times are escaping you and me.
