"Italian Heart"

This song was written with my grandmother in mind. She immigrated to the US from Italy when she was only 19, and never returned home, although she lived to be 100 years old. I've often thought about what it must have been like for her to give up all she knew and loved, and to arrive in land that was not always welcoming. This is my gift to her, and for all those who try to hold onto their culture, language, and soul in hostile places that try to force assimilation.
