Lyrics

I’ve got cities to burn, I’ve got distance to close. I won’t rest until I’m closer. And my own reaction surprised me, I guess I’m making progress. It seems to me we’ll have to speak through wires. 'Cause I’ve got to read is a note every three weeks and a song I don’t believe. And I’ve got to read the way your eyes open and close, the way your mouth moves to the right when you sing the word “never”. I chose that dusty, dying, old streetlight. And I watched it all dissolve right before my eyes. And I know you’re not concerned about my cities to burn, because you never believed me ‘til you heard it for yourself. So let me set it aside until I’m dying to ignite those cities you so quickly left behind. I chose the streetlight next to the library because my eyelids glowed closed in an August so cold. And I dropped to midnight ground, dropped my phone to the pavement, and my voice was barely there. I tried to say goodbye, I raised my hands to the fingerprint smudged Chicago sky. And I watched it all dissolve right before my eyes.
