Written to commemorate the 10th anniversary of my mother's passing. She contracted leukemia in 1993 and fought it hard - she went into remission 3 or 4 times - until succumbing on 9.11.97. It really messed me up for a long time. In fact, I don't think I fully grieved her loss until I finished this song. Composing it was a cathartic experience.
