I wrote this song for my Mom. I had written a song for my Dad after he passed away so I wanted to write one for my Mom while she was still with us. Prior to marrying my Dad she was a single Mom and we lived quite poor. Mom always managed to make sure we had everything we needed though.

Momma called one night crying Son I wish I'd had more time to spend with you A single Mom that worked all day long doin' the best that she could do I'd see her take clothes off the rack in the store she'd walk around and then she'd put them back there's things we need much more So don't be sad, the time we had together matters more than the time we'll never have Other kids in school lived in fine houses and their parents drove nice fancy cars But me and Mom and Grandma lived in a one-room place we rented but we called it ours Momma drove an old 57 Chevrolet, didn't cost much then but Lord it'd be worth so much today, like thos memories So don't be said, the time we had together matters more than the time we'll never have We weren't rich but we weren't poor In many ways we had much more Than those we knew that lived on higher ground There's things that money just can't buy, we're born to live and then we die And sometimes things don't turn out like we plan Make the time we have together matter more than the time we'll never have Time we'll never have
