Man of the Outdoors

Duration

3:28

Description

I wrote Man of the Outdoors in San Francisco, CA in 1983. It's semi-autobiographical and came to me all at once, oddly enough, while I was sitting outside watching squirrels play. I've refined it a little throughout the years. I sang and played all the instruments on the recording.

Lyrics

Clear blue skies, cold winter wind Chill my flesh, but warm me within. The beauty of nature, and wonders unknown Fill up my heart, add life to my soul. Man of the outdoors alive, young and free. Lives for the beauty, that man is me. I sing with the wolves, I fly with the birds. The beauty of nature, goes far beyond words. Twilight of dusk, a warm summer breeze, Sounds of the squirrels that nest in the trees. I live like my fathers, the men of the plains. Worshiping sun, moon, winds and rains. Get dressed, young man, put on shoes and socks, Get into our world of roofs, walls and locks. You can't lock me in, I'll get out someday, I'll go to the beauty and live in my way. The darkness of night, the wonders of day, Give me the outdoors and there I will stay. Man of the outdoors, alive, young and free, Lives for the beauty, that man is me...
