Description
This song is pretty precious to me. It is a true story inspired on a trip and by the people, scenery and rugged simplicity of life in Maine. I learned music by listening and playing along with guys like Gordon Lightfoot and Dan Fogelberg, so the arrangement, instrumentation and spirit is a tribute to them as well.
Lyrics
I learned last July How life's supposed to be Somewhere around the Kennebec My siren sang to me. In my search for America And the larger search for me Lay on both sides of Route 1 Between the land and the sea. Slow down my friend Here's where my world ends Life won't be the same Somewhere in Maine. I met a man who told me He crossed that bridge one day Ran out of gas on the other side Never left this place again. I guess I didn't believe him Until I passed the same way Too bad my tank is still full And so is my life far away. Slow down my friend Here's where my world ends Life won't be the same Somewhere in Maine. It was there I first saw the stars It was there I first heard the trees And I guess I never really thought how much Difference that the ocean on the rocks meant to me. Now I'm back in my world A thousand miles away Trying to somehow figure out How to get back there someday. Slow down my friend Here's where my world ends Life won't be the same Somewhere in Maine.
