Description

I kept the music simple, so that the lyrics are the focal point. I really enjoyed writting these lyrics. The idea that a man, with little courage, rose up to revenge his friend's familiy's murder, really appealed to me. Especially since the "vigilante" is already dying in the beginning of the song. The anticipation of whether he was successful in his revenge is what I tried to create.

Lyrics

Here I Lay, A Dyin Man Cut Down By A Faster Gunmans Hand, Give me some water. . .If U Can A Cowards Courage, For A Dead Mans Honor My Best Friend, His Wife & Daughter, Give me some water. . . If U Can The Sheriff Hid, & The Law Went Runnin What He Did Shouldn’t Go Unpunished I Could Shoot Him In His Back, But I’d Rather Look Him In His Eyes The Texas Sun Is Bearing Down Today I’ve Got No Sleep, All I Did Was Pray Cuz I Knew Sometime Today, I Was Gonna Die (rpt) --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- There We Stood, He Started 2 Pull It My Only Chance, Was 2 Take The Bullet & Pray 2 God, That My Aim Was Tried & True I Had Enough Time, 2 Fire One Round Before My Body Hit The Ground But I Can’t See, If I Did What I Came 2 Do Stick My Body In The Ground, & Take My Soul Sold My Horse, 4 An Old Tombstone, Give Me Some Water. . .Before I Go I Made My Peace, As A Dyin Fool I Know My Judgement Is Coming Soon, Give Me Some Water. . .Before I Go ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------- My Eyes Are Filled, With My Blood & Sweat Sky Looks Black, & The Clouds Turned Red But There’s A Man Standin Over Me, That I Recognize I Could Tell By The Look On His Face He Was Singin, Amazing Grace The More He Sang, The More I Felt My Spirit Rise ---------------------------------------------------- I Looked Down, At My Dead Skin & Bones I Could See, That I Was All Alone But There’s A Crowd Of People, Where The Man Once Stood Before His Hat & Boots, In Someone Else’s Hand While He Laid Face-Down In The Sand So Keep Your Water, I’m Not Thirsty Anymore
