Description

This song I wrote about my two uncles. They both were in the Vietnam War. The music is all recorded on a mini disc recorder in my house. I play the acoustic guitar, bass guitar, and do my own back up vocals.

Lyrics

THE PURPLE HEART Verse: I remember when I was a young boy of four. My uncles would come home on leave from the war. They would sing “Puff The Magic Dragon” lived by the sea. Home from the Navy. Chorus: I remember the news didn’t understand the pain, but as I got older reality came. They were protecting our freedom on foreign land. George came home normal, Carl a different man. Verse: He wouldn’t quit drinking you wouldn’t think he was smart. While cleaning the attic I found his Purple Heart. I stared at it and wondered what this was for. Not aware it was from the War. Chorus: Verse: I gave it to Carl and wished I had it back. It got lost in the shuffle after he passed. I should have kept for his honor and memories of his past. If only I would have asked. Bridge: Now they say “he had medals even greater than his Purple Heart. But I’ll never know what they were for. I’m sure they were something he chose to ignore. God Bless the soldier who went to War. Chorus: I remember the news didn’t understand the pain, but as I got older reality came. They were protecting our freedom on foreign land. George came home normal, Carl a different man. George came home normal, from Vietnam. © Copyright Charles Burns 2007
